Hi...
First time gyro thrower as of today.
I realized i had a decent amount of mvp and axiom and decided to have a go.

Hey good to see you in here... glad you had a decent round! You have a pretty solid bag right there. If you don't own a vertex I don't know if I would buy one, a decently broken in tangent will be more consistent. Or get a neutron spin, you can throw em flat and they will turn on their own but not burn. Though I'm an Envy/Ohm guy for the most part.

If you are buying something for that slot look to 155-165g relay and take it from there.

The wave is awesome! Depending on weight/ plastic it will be straight/ understable with a great flippy distance. Think longer insanity.

Tesla has been a huge disc for me, not distance well kind of, but utility consistently.

I'll concede that I can't prove that color doesn't matter at all. It really shouldn't at all. But. Maybe. On the list of variables that affect disc outcome, color is way down that list.

Haha fair enough but find me a pop top yellow esp comet I defy you!!!! I like em yellow because it's a flatter top. I swore I'd never buy into that colour nonsense! Or glow Z, it comes out flat all the time. That's my second favourite Comet.

Thanks for the suggestions. The vertex was part of a small lot i bought and was hoping it would fill the stand still lid shots from about 100-150. The only thing i missed was the touch lid shots. I never realized how much i reach for a polecat/birdie.

I'm hopefully gonna give my boy Raven some gas money for tour in exchange for more gyro. He got me started on the envy.

How heavy is the vertex? 176 is the ideal straight weight, 174 is flipper and 178 is beefy on the short shots. It's a touchy disc, I tried to love it but. I'm a long time tangent thrower, the ohm kicked the tangent.

Gyro putters are long! Relay powers down or glides super f uckin far and I don't need mids as much.

The problem is the height loss vs power to achieve proper flight. The understable vertex/spin drop too fast an electron atom should fill those spots but heck try the vertex. See what you think, it was fun. And full disclaimer I never threw my 176 skulboy it's shelved but I know it would have been just right :)

The Spin is worth a look, I throw the oop protons. It's the happiest disc haha flippiest disc they make, still loses height a bit though but hyzer flips well even fairly short.

Envy is awesome! The electrons are in ohm territory with extra glide, very straight. Ohm is broken in envy. Straight rocket!

Seriously with your bag unless you're going longer, if! You're spending money...

Relay!

However, I will definitely argue that multiple "identical" discs bought at the same time from the same place are likely from the same "run". They could be, but they just as likely couldn't be. I've seen first hand proof to the contrary.

More often than not - they are from the same run. Vendors make an order. They then try to sell that down. No reason to re-order something if you still have it in stock. :p

That's Logic. ;)

You'll have a few things they can't sell that stick around - but in general - if they've got multiples - they are from the same order - which was more than likely from the same run.

You think that a retailer completely runs out of a color of a disc, then orders more, and keeps them sorted out by date received?

Vendors don't get to order by color. They order molds and weights. Here's the wholesaler form https://mvpdiscsports.com/documents/MVP-Wholesale.xls

We're not dealing with massive companies with huge markets where vendors keep tons of discs in stock - particularly not when it comes to a smaller producer like MVP. They buy and sell - and reorder when stock gets low. Most of them order multiple molds at the same time to meet MVP's order minimum. Therefore - if they have 2 discs, same color, same weight - they were probably made the same day. :p

I realized i had a decent amount of mvp and axiom and decided to have a go.

2 Electron Envy and 1 Neutron
1 Electron Atom
1 Tangent
A Wave, Servo, Tesla and an Insanity.

The E Envy is a great putting putter. Not a huge difference between Wizards in the hand. The neutron is a 162 with beef. I really gelled with it in place of a scale. I used the atom for touch annies and it held lines great. (I have some Anodes i may try too)
The tangent was slower than i expected. Mako-ish and very easy to control.
I really liked the Servo for leopard shots. I can see it being a nice glider soon. The Tesla is a 160 and had decent D potential. This will be a go-to. The Insanity is easy to control in the woods. I didn't get to toss the wave.
I'm adding a Volt, deflector and Vertex soon. I think that will cover all my bases.
It added a newness to a very familiar Tuesday dubs round. OMs are fun.

Welcome!

I'm a big fan of the Atom. It was the first disc I bought from MVP. I carry several Neutrons in the rig for my distance putter. I briefly carried the envy, but I prefer the Atom.

Of the in-production MVP Fairways, the Servo is my favorite. I liken it to a TL. Tip - don't throw it in the wind - it's not wind resistent. MVP really needs a Teebird.

Tesla is a solid point-and-shoot. I wish they had 5 glide - I'd just carry Teslas in my distance slot if they did.

I think the argument is that you can use color to distinguish different runs of the disc (sometimes), not that the color actually has an effect on the flight.

Hmm. Good point about time of molding re colour, if it's the same day then things like relative temperature and humidity would be the same and you would have similar discs.

My point is the colour can affect the way the dome can mold or other cooling/shaping that happens. Like the yellow esp comets, so though colour isn't responsible for changing flight characteristics it can change molding like a flatter dome which would change the flight.

You are correct!

Because the numbers of discs sold are so low - generally if a vendor has 2 or 3 of the same disc, same color, same weight - they are probably from the same run. :D

And that's how I buy discs. It's also a 2nd reason for me never to buy swirly discs - the first being, you can't find them in the leaves, tallgrass, or honeysuckle.

The small local shop has Cosmic Neutron Envies and Proton Envies. Ironically, these are the only two Envy plastics that I've never previously thrown. How do those two plastics compare to something like regular Neutron?

I will answer my own question. Bought a Proton because the Cosmic Neutrons were basically camouflage baby poop colored. And the Proton Envy flew exactly like I remember my Neutron Envies flying.

If conventional wisdom holds true, proton and standard neutron discs of the same mold usually fly pretty similar. It's when you get into fission, plasma, and electron that things start to get really noticable. Even the cosmic neutron discs are seemingly flying different.

Yeah I woulda chimed in but I haven't thrown my cosmic envy yet, it's the Marm-O basket bashers ones. I find the proton the straightest of all premium plastic envy, as it breaks in its least likely to turn and the fade seems less. More of a laser less of an S

I dig it. I've always loved Envies even when not bagging them. I was trying to minimize molds a bit, which is why I didn't replace my last Envy that I lost a year ago in the snow. Figured I could just run a premium and jawbreaker Zone for overstable/low glide/fade, and Judges for traditional putter stuff like straight/slow/glidey drives and touch anny upshots. And I do bag a Berg for SUPER low speed/low glide/stable upshots that absolutely can't go long. So that's 6 putters in my bag across 3 molds, which really made me leery of adding an Envy regardless of how great they are.

Well, given the jack-of-all-trades and master-of-many trait of the Envy, it probably can replace 2-3 discs in my bag. I put it through the paces yesterday, and it really bridges the gap between a fresh premium Zone and Judges quite well. Speed is right in the middle, glide is right in the middle, and the HSS of the Envy with moderate fade just makes it so workable. Additionally, it powers up so well that it makes a neutral midrange almost unnecessary.

So, moral of the story is this. If you want to minimize molds, then cut something other than an Envy out of the bag.

Amen brother.. Praise the Envy!

Haha. Yeah I switched my putter to the Envy in a minimizing and stick to one putter kind of bid.

There's a lot of times it really feels like a good choice, oddly enough night golf back last summer for a guys birthday I think, private course I hadn't played in the day I really had a good round. Not lights out getting paid but real solid, carried some skins. It probably helped that all I had was glowfly, envy, comet, nuke. Those eclipse protons are sweet drivers, a touch more flex and grip than proton.

Also threw my big downhill hole on the weekend, turned the ohm so it held a tight anny, forced the envy straight to little fade, and got the reactor to make a wide anny all the way down. I was surprised the reactor didn't pull out and fade. I guess if someone who had more juice would throw it it could be real straight!

Totally agree. Especially now that I don't play much in the wind, I think my favorite Envy would be that batch of Eclipses from a couple years ago. Just a hint of turn plus some added glide compared to regular Envies. Man those things bombed for a putter!

Yeah, I only had the SE Halloween ones, well I still have 1 at 166g the other is lost in the bush on hole 12 at my place.. I've looked, often, but that's what I get for playing night golf on the disc eating hole. I've got a 174 I haven't thrown yet.

I did spot a few that a guy has and you are seriously making me think about pulling the trigger. :D the one I moved into the bag is even better than the one I was working on for a year! Just wow straight (ish)

Yeah, that SE Halloween run is what I was talking about! I didn't get the weird faceless witch stamp, instead opting for the kind of plain stock stamp. But that was still the same run of plastic. Those were awesome Envies, if you like a hint of turn and glide. Definitely the longest Envy I've bagged unless you count a beat in Electron.
