[Gateway] Gateway Wizard

Just bought 5 nikko wizards from marshal street. Def the perfect wizard. Not too soft, not too firm, flat shoulder, velvety feel, thinner flight plate(supposedly).
This stock should last me a few years.

I'm sure it's been discussed, but I don't quite know what to search for the answer. Can anyone recommend a plastic that's firm, but not slick? I like the softer feel, but still prefer a stiffer putter. I think S is what I'm looking for, but it's been a long time since I've thrown Gateway putters.

Rigid and grippy feel.... Eraser

I got 2 SS Wizards from Infinite today. Played a round before work and I'm loving these for putting. I was putting classic blend Wardens, but I recently switched my grip up a little and wanted something a little deeper. These things are fantastic.

Plus you can get cool stamps

I recently switched to Aviars after a long time of only putting a Wizard SS. What I miss most is that amazing velvity feel that no Aviar can match. Gateway's selling point of blends/firmness/stamps was one of the reasons I switched. No matter how hard I looked I wasn't able to find matches to the Wizards I was used to. I wasn't a fan of the "newer" Wizards. Maybe one day I'll switch back, but for now I'm going commando on beadless putters :)

Can't say enough if you want to get into wizards you need to buy them directly from gateway.

They can get you a stack of identical ones per your speck.

And, you can also describe the one you have and they will do their best to match it.

Or just roadtrip through Stl, and be prepared to bring a fat stack of cash.

I'll be down in St. Louis in about a month. I might just have to do this.

These are my go-to as well. Just awesome - the OG Wizard mold!

I've been carrying wizards again for a few weeks, after being fed up with not being able to find rubber blend steadys easily. 2 SS for putting and one worn in SSS for throwing.

To be completely honest, I've fallen in love with the Wizard again, well over a decade after I had them in my bag before.

My skill has obviously grown quite a bit since I last carried Wizards, and it really shines now, especially for throwing. I thought the Steady had more glide, but I was so mistaken. The steady is what I thought I remembered the Wizard as, so many years ago as an Int level player - overstable finish, low glide - and really the Wizard is not either of those things in base plastic. It's so straight through it's flight, and has a lot more glide at low speeds.

All in all, there's a great chance that I don't switch away from the Wizard anytime soon. Paired with an overstable approach disc, that combination should be able to handle all work inside of 250' in reasonable conditions.

Oh, and SS plastic is SO GOOD. Gateway really does have the best baseline plastic for putters on the market - and it's not even close in my opinion.

I'm also loving the SS plastic. I picked up a couple a few weeks ago and absolutely love them for putting.

I'm hoping I have time to stop at their store down in STL in a few weeks. I'd like to fondle up some of their other plastics too.

I would highly recommend the RDG Scale as your over-stable approach disc. It has the Wizard bottom and RDG top.

A normal wizard is overstable enough for backhand approaches for me.

I always have a harp/zone type disc in my bag because I lean pretty hard on forehand approach chip shots (right now, a VIP Harp is working well for me)

Anybody: Then what is the Wizard like disc from RDG that is a lower profile Wizard and if not them is that a Gateway disc?

The Chief was supposed to be the "lower profile wizard." There's the Chief OS but I've never thrown one. Both Gateway discs.

To me, I can see the resemblance but it doesn't "feel" like a shallower wizard to me. I would just recommend a Voodoo if someone thinks a Wizard feels a little too deep.

I like the Chief but they are very shallow. I remember reading a 1/4" shallower than a Wizard.

The Chief OS is like a Senius in flight, for those who do not like the top on a Senius. At least that was how it was used by a guy and I have used a persons Sinus when messing around before a round to see what the hype was for a disc too OS for me at the time.

Chief is like the Latitude 64 lower profile flat top Wizard a more rounded nose to wing with a more convex rim then Wizard's already Convex rim Big Bead Aviar like shape.

Voodo is missing the Big Bead, is basically a mini bead Wizard at exact same height.

I've become old and cranky; when people whine that the Wizard is too deep I tell them to put on their big boy pants and learn to throw a damn putter! :redforemandumbasssmiley:

I switched from Wizards to Warlocks ages ago. Then you posted this damn thing and I thought "Eh, what the Hell? Let's toss some Wizards for old times sake." Damn it.

What am I supposed to do with all these Warlocks now?
