Approach Discs

i have been using the dga gumputt powerdrive. it is basically a mid version of the blowfly. flight is really neutral, straight as a arrow if you want. you can be very aggressive without worrying about rollaways or long deflections. and it isnt in that crappy blowfly color.

Sinus AP for me, Classic roc, XD, or Gremlin for my wife.

Ray, you use a goblin for uphill shots is that what you are saying?

The local pros always recommend to "disc down". Turns out my putter, a Challenger, is also my best generic approach disc. Throw it at the basket, no muss no fuss.

i've been using my rpro dart recently, its a little more overstable than I would like but for some reason that disc gives me a really good feel for those close up shots

I've been playing for a decade and thrown thousands of discs, and imo the Ion is the best approach disc yet made.

I'd have to say Challengers as well but lately I've been messing around with some Ringers and have really been liking them too.

If I'm close enough I'll use my putter, either a focus or magnet. Little bit further out and I'll use a roc or buzzz, I kinda go back and forth between those two.

Star Big Bead Aviar or Star Aero depending on wind direction. If theres a strong headwind or I need a flex shot that fades, I may use a Star Rhyno or a beat up Viper.

I usually pull out my Zone, which I also use as my main putter. I do have more stable and understable options but am thinking of buying a few Pro D Zones to beat in to be those discs as well. I just love the feel and versatility of the Zone. Great low profile and great at distances up to 200 ft or so for me right now.

My approach disc depends on the situation.
I don't have the disc control that I need, so i tend to take the disc that will work best for the situation:
Flat-top FLX Challenger for anything under mid-range range and general purpose.
Beat-in Evo Warlock for a no-roll, no-skip (sidehills, downhill, etc.)
Well-used QMS for mid-range approaches.
FLX Drone for windy approaches.

OK, this is going to sound strange , but this works for me:

220ft-100ft = 176 Soft Magnet- Its heavy , so it doesn't' turn over when thrown hard, and flies almost dead straight.

99ft-40ft = 170 Pro D Challenger- Slightly overstable, so I throw it just right of the basket, and it curves back in. Because of the curve, if I miss, it doesn't fly far past the basket. It doubles as my overstable, and wind putter.

40ft to Basket= 174 Soft Magnet- It also flies dead straight, and has more glide than my heavier putter, so it dosen't drop as fast, and holds slower lines better.

I wish mine was still overstable.
