I don't put much credence in our rating system just for this reason.
If Pauly wants to give it a 1 disc then that is his perogative.
Mabey Idlewild should be #3. I don't know, I haven't played any of the top
10.
Or just have a trusted reviewer section in each review section.
There has to be a better way or else cut the review section completely.

I personally think that trying to vy for the TOP SPOT is like most presidential elections. People start smear campaigns and polls that are... ummm, unnecessary. Just admit that they are some great Courses, Go out and play them, and stop worrying about who is the best. Because no matter what:

Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.

But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not alot
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....

Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

Then how do you know it deserved #2. The same system is what got it there in the first place after all.

Well reviewing courses is kind of the central purpose of this site ain't it. Without a review section, it ceases to be DGCR, or at least the R part.

Here's my suggestion. How about people here quit worshiping the Top 10 list like the fate of western civilization is riding on it. I mean seriously guys, go boink your significant other (if necessary, get plastered first). Barbeque a small woodland creature and eat it. Play basketball blindfolded. Teach a cat how to speak Klingon. Go give candy to a baby so you can steal it back.

There are far more engaging things to do with your time than bitch how someone who has the same power to write reviews on here as you, well, has the same power to write reviews on here as you, and that by doing so, they might knock your precious Top 10 list out of order. I mean my God, they're just DG courses, its not like they're commandments or something.

Some people will not enjoy Idle for the reasons dude stated, for most people it will be the toughest course they have ever played. Which makes it to much for them and they dont enjoy themselves. Idle will get a couple fives when the travel season gets in full swing and jump back up. I feel Idle and flip both deserve to be where they are cause they both have 50+ reviews and to be ranked that high after so many reviews puts them above any of the others on these site.

Its kind of obvious it should be higher if it drops after a 1 star rating when the average is 5.

San Marcos! I am with Apothecary on that one. I think I'm need of another SoCal trip. SOON!

Any rating more than 2 off of the average rating usually means that someone is trying to lower or raise the rating purposefully.

It's basic statisitcs, watch out for outlyers that are more than 2 standard deviations from the mean.

Or they are simply clueless...not every reviewer is caught up in review espionage shenanigans. :\

I'm sure Idlewild isn't the second best course in the country for everybody. It's dumb when people bicker about how "their" course was rated. I'm sure Idlewild is a good course, but I guarantee that there are many courses that are more fun than it out there. The course got to where it was on the same rating system that got it pushed back to third. Its fine by me, I don't really care how its rated. If you like it, play it. Its not like a rating on a website affects how enjoyable the course is when you're there.

Its pretty petty that a review gets thumbs down based on the score and not review content. Not necessarily the case with this last one but something that always happens to anybody that gives one of the highly rated courses something below what some of the fans think it should be.

i think you need to find something more important to do with your time.

A guy that's played 98 courses should not be getting beaten down this bad by this particular course. He also should have developed a thicker skin in regards to courses by this point as well (unless all of his courses played are in Chicagoland :)). Could easily be just a 15 seconds of fame/humor enjoyment. A little something to spice up the life of DGCR.

Dude has played a good amount of quality courses; though not a huge amount of "beat down" courses... (And....he has played a bunch of Chicagoland...:))

This is pretty much my thought said by some one else.

I just drove to Idlewild (it's close to the airport and I had to drop some one off) I saw no signs of the course being any different than it was when this site had it ranked #1.

Sign off the Internet and please find some thing else to worry about...please!

Well, I think there should be some guidelines when reviewing courses, I just started reviewing more, and there are certainly things that factor in for every course for me. How I played the course is not one of them. Here are some of the things that I think EVERYONE should consider when reviewing courses.

1. Course Design: is it just some baskets in the forest, or did someone think it out.
2. Litter, Upkeep: Nothing makes me mad like a trashed course that could be beautiful, or bashed up disccatchers that were installed 3 years ago.
3. TeePads are important, no body likes throwing from a dirt trench.
4. The folks on the course. Good locals can go a long way in a review.
5. Signs and ease of navigation.
6. Course dedication, I am not too big on sharing with the football and soccer players.

There are several other things that factor into my reviews, but, based on what I have read, there is NO WAY that I would give Idlewild a a 1. Sounds like someone just was a whiney pissy little d-bag that had a tear in his beer after throwing 18 over on an 18.
