DIY Disc Golf Backpack

So what do you all think, should I put plasti-dip on the bottom or not? How about plasti-dip on the frame to make it a little bit less abrasive?

plasti-dip kicks ace

you prolly could coat the frame at points where it rubs against fabric...should work well.

I shaved down all the rough edges on the PVC pipe with a razor. It took forever. A file would have been easier I am sure. I am hoping that it wont rub on the bag since there are only smooth edges. If I ever do Plastidip the bottom, I might as well do the frame too. I recieved a ton of comments on the bag the first time I used it. Found a nice cooler for the top compartment that worked perfect. I must say that I love this damn bag.

Has anyone used the bottom without tucking the pocket under? I have a Revolution Dual Pack and I just leave my bottom pocket hanging.

BTW, I love the design. Wish I would have seen this before I shelled out the $150 for the Revo (the Revo is certainly worth every penny, though).

It works just fine with the flap hanging. I find it more convenient, not to mention snazzier-looking, to fold the flap under.

You could use 1/2" pvc and on the bottom where the discs are, wrap them in that thin foam "pipe insulation" so as not to put any "dents" in your discs from prolonged standing up on their edge? Just a thought.......jerry

I tried the pipe insulation to try and protect the bag from the frame more than protecting the discs. You would have to make a smaller frame to fit it in there.

I've seen a few homemade bags in my day, but this is definately the most thouhgt out and the most elaborate. It wouldn't do for me though, as I like to carry the least amount of discs and other stuff around on the course with me that I can!

Here is my finished bag. Can't wait to try it, unfortunately we just got hit with 2.5 ft of snow. The quality of the bag impressed me greatly and also how easy the modifications were. I will probably keep modifying the bag to improve it to my needs and as I see fit in teh future.

Here is a modification that I did that perhaps you guys might want to do also. I found that when I wanted to put discs in the bag, sometimes they would get stuck on the PVC connector because of the jump from the normal tube to the connector. I fixed this by first wrapping paper around the tube, and then covering it in tape.

I ended up only spray painting that, and also wrapping it with tape on the bottom two tubes. I did make sure to completely sand down pressure points that could cause extra wear, as visible in the last picture. Maybe in the future I will coat part of the frame in plasti-dip.

Back-packer

I've been using a standard back-pack for years. My first was from Wal-Mart ($9.99) but later I moved up a bit in style & bought a new Ogio 'Cooper' back pack:

There were many to choose from. I got this one for $19.00:

I then bought two of the Innova Dividers (@ $7.00 each) & installed:

I use the side (net) pockets for my water bottle, bag-tags & mini:

Here you can see the separate putter pocket to the right & an Ipod pocket (zipper) on the left:

Overall the backpack idea has worked out well! It is comfortable & stable as most of the weight is down low. It is super roomy & has multiple pockets. It's not a double-decker but I dont need all that. If I need a new backpack they are readily available for cheap!
