Picked up a couple beat Katanas and a Spore at Great Lakes Disc. Took em out for a spin. Spore is going to need some practice, it is not near as torque resistant as I was lead to believe. My hope is that I can get used to throwing some soft floaty long bids with it. The Katanas are flippy and glidey. Definitely putting one in the bag and saving the other for later. Otherwise, I made silly mistakes on this round.

Decided to flex the old Teebirds, and see if Leopards would be useful for me. If I'm being honest with myself, I should probably be throwing Teebirds and Leopards in place of the Thunderbirds and Sidewinders, but I'm not gonna . I am pushing a little extra distance with the Thundys(and Orions) and I have a good stack of Sidewinders of all kinds of wear and flight shape. I do miss the almost effortless feel of the distance with Teebirds though. As I get older, they will be waiting for me, but for now it's the speed 9s. Better round overall, felt normal actually so I know I can do better. Blasted 50 feet past and OB on hole 6 which is 370-ish. Great for the ego, not so much for the scorecard as it was the only bogey I took during the round. That was with a Freshy-ish Pro Katana, they have so much distance potential.

I didn't really count misreleases in the above data, and had to work with different heights to get repeatable results. The great thing is that the Katanas have so much bite at the end that they always come back. Though I could probably throw a roller with the lightweight Star Katana, which I might try to practice later.

Round started off rough with a bogey on hole 1, and a double bogey on hole 5. After that I was able to hold it together and give myself some chances for birdie. Almost got 18 which is one that I haven't gotten yet.

This was a great round considering how windy it was, and the course is usually pretty tough. I think I am normally around +5 here. The discs I threw were quite a bit different from what I remember using, probably because of the wind, but maybe not.

Got a round in before the storms hit. Low wind and good drives kept me in birdie territory on most holes. This is my current record for this course, and only the second time I have ended in the negative. I'm starting to think that all those terrible winter rounds are paying off.

Played some rounds with friends from Chicago. The Johnson park score is close to a normal round for me. Flip city is a challenging course, but I was not playing well. Jaycee is usually pretty good to me, but my putt was off the whole round. I had a 220-ish throw in with a firebird for birdie on hole 15 at Jaycee, but that was the only real notable for the week.

Johnson and Flip City require similar discs, and Jaycee is different enough that all discs were eventually used.

Average round. Started off well, with 2 down off the first 3 (Birdie on Hole 2 still evades me). Fell apart after a bad drive on hole 5. Didn't pull it back together again until a birdie on hole 18 which is one I had not gotten before, so pretty happy with that. Hole 2 is the only one left.

Picked up a Boss as an overstable complement to my Katanas. Honestly, I was thinking a Charger or Shryke would be better for my arm speed, but the bottom wing on a Boss is the exact same as a Katana, so I took the chance. Turns out, my arm speed is just fine for a boss. I got a long straight flight with a healthy fade in a tailwind, and it held up nicely in a headwind. The Katana still gets more distance, but the Boss is going to be better for the headwind.

I decided to toss some Teebirds in for a little experiment. I have read the intriguing conversation that happened on the 7 speed disc thread, and decided to try something out. I took out 2 discs that i never throw at Johnson and replace them with a slightly seasoned and a beat Teebird. I threw my normal shots, and anything involving my OS Mid or my OS 9 speed, I would throw the same shot with a Teebird. Also, Any shot that would normally be a 13 speed, I would throw that and then a 9 speed. I also forced myself to throw all shots at 75-80% power as my goal here is to see if I can reduce future shoulder injury.

For me, the Teebirds and Thunderbirds fly about the same distance at 80% so there is an argument to be made for discing down, but also not because if I just force myself to throw at 80% it doesn't matter which disc I use. Katanas however still glide and fly really well at 80% and were outdistancing the Thunderbirds by a good 40-50 feet or more. I switched from Wraiths to Katanas specifically because they are easy distance and I can throw softer, so this didn't really surprise me. All throws were flat at shoulder height, as that is my normal throwing style. I will also say, that I have never had more fun playing disc golf as I do now. My mental game grows stronger, my distance is slowly growing (lifting heavy weight is helping alot in my old age), and I have confidence in what my discs are and how to throw them.

There would normally be a Katana a Kotuku and a Sidewinder here depending on wind, but I was throwing multiple shots off the tee, so everything was thrown eventually. If I am only counting the scoring throws, here is what I didn't throw.

I haven't played this course for about 8 months. Mostly open field with hills, and trees surrounding it making for a nice mix of open fairways and tree lined ones. Reds are the shorts which call for a good variety of disc from putters all the way to big distance. Very windy at 20mph and a crazy thunder storm rolled through when I hit hole 15. Only got 1 birdie, with probably 2 other chances for it. The boss holds up pretty well in the wind which make me happy.

Rough round. I would blame it on the wind, but I've played the course in worse and shot better. Noticed that when I am playing with people, I don't play as smart as when I'm alone. Constantly need to remind myself that if I don't have a look at birdie, play for par. Running my shots never leads to good scores.
