We're working on his form and distance but I have no clue what a reasonable distance is for an 8 year old. I know it's subjective but I don't see many other kids his age throw.

My son just turned 9 can throw 60m with a 150g leopard. 40m with a max weight putter.
Hes pretty big for his ages.

For an 8-year old, forget distance and concentrate on the kid having fun.

Kid learning good sportsmanship a bonus.

He has fun and loves it, and he's friends with pros and AMs. Everyone has taken under their wing and corrected any wrongs on and off the course. It's one of the reasons we love the sport

Check out Kids Disc Golf on facebook. Lots of vids of kids throwing there maybe will give you some ideas and goals.

i would think an athletic 8 year old would be able to throw at least 200 feet.

275' is the world record for 8 year old, 200' is impressive IMO. His release looks really good from what I can see. He does appear to be squishing the bug and spinning the rear foot out, so his rear heel actually goes backward away from the target initially when he plants the front leg, and he isn't landing upright enough on the front leg, the knee should be more stacked inline with the ankle and hip.

^Can you go frame by frame or pause/rewind instagram clips?

Agree that his release and arm look great.

Thanks, Sidewinder and Slow plastic, this is great info.!!

I do agree with SW that's he's getting "into" the front hip instead of on top of the leg when throwing. Before the throw when he's walking through it he seems to be nicely on top of the right leg, so I really think he'll naturally get that feeling if he lets himself just keep throwing and optimizing...especially since he's already throwing like he is.

When you're older then you've really got to assess and analyze what to change, instead of just letting yourself keep getting better at it.
