Is this really the reason to go to a course?

I recently put up a review on the Tower Ridges courses, and read one of the reviews put up before mine:::

Pros: Nice and lv for the most part. Lots of curves and challening holes. Great for a good round of beer drinkin..

Cons: Not my fav of the two tower ridge runs. easy to lose a disc if you dont watch it.

Other Thoughts: If you visit Tower Ridge you have to shoot both runs.

I personally have always disliked beer or any alchohol so I may be biased, I am wondering if I'm the only one that finds a review like this to be disgusting... I know we talk about beer and even though timg doesn't like it, weed comes up as well. But do we seriously need that to be in the reviews for all to see when looking up disc golf courses and/or planning a trip??? I'm sorry if I'm venting but this kind of stuff just irks me off.

Well I'm not sure if it NEEDS to be in the review....but I've had a review where I've said that it's not a good course for trying to drag around a cooler. I think as long as people like to go out and drink while they play...it may be applicable in the review:)

Or maybe mention that local Police are cracking down on people drinking at the course. I heard that was the case at RRDGC.

last time i checked alcohol was legal...if the park says it is not then it is a problem..but nothing wrong with a few cool ones while playing if they allow it

Well, I guess the question is, is it illegal at that park to drink? If the question is yes then it is in poor taste.

If it is no then to each their own.

Or....uhhh yeah what he said ^^

I would want to know if it wasn't allowed. I do enjoy me some hoppy goodness during a round.

To clarify I don't care that he is drinking. And this post has nothing to do with legality. But that is the entire review, what I quoted at the top. I didn't just pull snippets out. What gets on my nerve about it is, why on a public course directory do we need that? Do people look for courses because they are good to drink beer or smoke weed at, or am I the only one that reads about courses to learn about the course itself... His entire review is "It's good for drinkin at". We don't just get people over 21 looking at the course directory.

Maybe that will clear up what I'm trying to get at.

Maybe you could set up some parameters for reviews that would please you and start emailing them to everyone on the site. TIMG could start erasing reviews that you don't like and all would be well. Crap like this is why don't even bother reviewing.

i hear ya rik...people just wanna slap ya down when you are trying anything new or fun..world full of diverse folks...live with 'em and get along or be bored by yourself

In Colorado Alcohol is illegal in most parks. Most of the time it goes unnoticed. There are some courses that are at schools that I know you should not drink at. Although those are some of the ones I see the most beer trash at. Dang middle schoolers and their 40's of King Cobra....

So the review sucked, say no it wasn't helpful and move on. I think drinking is part of the game to enough folks that it is relevant in a review. For example, I have noted in a review that there were not signs forbidding alcohol, which is cool for those of us who like to enjoy a few cold ones while we play.

As long as you're getting upset about meaningless things, you should go comment on the "signing the number plate on aces" forums

Ive started to agree with several people on here... Just make reviews the way you want and ignore the rest. Look for others who review in a way you appreciate and only read their or others like theirs.

Your my boy blue.

That hence is largely the problem in a lot of parks. There are rules against drinking per the laws of the city/county that park is in, but they're rarely enforced, often leading to the misperception that it IS legal. I actually wrote a review yesterday for a course where they do enforce a no alcohol policy aggressively, and stated in the comments section not to bring it unless they wanted to risk a stiff fine, not to mention getting the course pulled for everybody.

Personally, I don't drink myself, but I have no problem with people chugging a cold one or two during the round, and for most part, I'm not handed any static about it. The problem is that a lot of the parks where our courses are located also have other more family oriented amenities like playgrounds, walking trails, youth sports fields where people generally don't drink (adult sports fields are another matter). When these folks passing by us, see us DG'ers drinking, even when it is legal, it perpetuates the image that disc golfers are lowlife bums whose primary motivation for playing is to get sauced.

And its especially saddening when we leave evidence of our misdeeds on the ground for these folks to see long after we've left the course. I hate to say it, but those images may stick in people's minds the next time a course is proposed.

So yeah, I can see why some folks might take a review like that to heart.

What good does it do to enjoy a beer in the DG park when you are not supposed to if that means the course will either get pull or it could jeopardize the building of a new course. I can sacrifice my beer consumption for the sake of furthering the sport. As far as putting it in reviews well that is up to the reviewer. If you choose to do so be prepared to give everyone one the impression that you are only in to DG to drink. Which is cool with me as long as you don't get drunk and throw on me while I am putting.

if the course dosnt allow alcohol i would report that review to be taken down, otherwise i think its o.k. i myself enjoy 1 or 2 quality brews a round once and awhile and that would tell me that that probally wasnt a very challenging course but a good place to have relaxing round of dg or it could be a place full of morons either way that dosnt look like a very good review.

as far as putting stuff about weed in a review unless its NorCal i dont think thats a good idea that could bring some bad p.r. to the course, but i think adding stuff about it not being 4:20 friendly is alright.
