Brainwave-Like Disc Dyeing

I'm going to SC marble the jelly fish in purple and red though, with a blue BW background

maybe some kind of dye around the edge in a circle would be cool too

Just need to win some plastic to dye now...

Seriously though.... if you are going to do it, you should cut out an extra for me :D

Here is another experiment lol. Tried to make a buncha rolls near the edge. If at least 1 of the 10 or 11 discs comes out nice ill be happy.

That would mean I'd get to try again on the others lol

This one i used hair dye and some rit together.

Nemo would be clutch too. My son makes me watch it a million times a day

Those are no longer Brainwaves.... those venture into centipedes!

looking at Dan's waves, it seems they all have 2 or 3 colors - which I think is helping avoid the "haze" - although I also think treating it with something is also giving the "grape" smell (not the dye as most are assuming)...

I'm thinking - and I could be way off base, but I may put this to a test:

step 1 - disc floats in a bath of heated vinegar (do they make grape vinegar?)
step 2 - mix dye into some Elmer's glue - preferably 2 or 3 colors
step 3 - lay down "background color" base of Elmers/dye mix, spread over plate/lid/container evenly
step 4 - lay down "wave" color of Elmers/dye mix
step 5 - press in disc for waves

steps may need adjusting - for example - evenly spread "base coat" over disc, let dry, then "wave" in secondary color using glue/dye/acetone mix to cut through base coat...

I don't know - just thinking out loud...

For the record, I am sure i am not the only one, but elmers glue has been tried, with no good results. I even tried hot glue, no es bueno........

elmers glue is good for masking, so maybe straight elmers on top/under/laced in with the dye on the plate. It may make some cool voids in the dye when done.

Hey you guys!

Been trying some hair dye myself.... punky color that Um... had mentioned. Perfect consistency.... smells like grapes... bright colors.

We will see what turns up in 24-48 hours!

Anybody have any tips on how we can NOT get the "background haze" around the bwaves? You know, just the "veins" themselves?

I've had some success "erasing" the background and just leaving the waves by blow drying on low blow, high heat. it dries up the thinner stuff. just keep it like 16" or so away or it will distort the waves.

Yeah mine came out light again. But I have a different dye that ill be trying tonight. It stained my hand after only being on it for about a second. Ill post pre pictures and hopefully good post pictures

Whole lotta discs setting up. Will post results if good in 48

Plastic is star, champ, z, opto, and gl

I was just going to try this stuff out! I googled "bright hair dye that smells like grapes" or something like that, and that is what came up. Where did you go to buy it?
