So, how did you play today? Part II

I played yesterday, but the big news was I treated my first snake bite victim on the course. I caught up to a twosome, where the victim was laying on the ground, and his friend was looking in the bushes to take a photo of the snake. I just thought the friend was looking for a disc, and very odd that someone was laying on the ground. I shouted to play thru and when I passed by the victim wasn't looking very well. That's when he told me of the snake bite, he had kneeled down right on top of the snake. They couldn't tell me anything about the snake, but I had seen several cottonmouths and copperheads the past few years. Within a few minutes the swelling was at least 8-inches across and red on his shin. Got him to sit up, and um advised his friend to get out of the bushes, not wanting two victims. He wouldn't let me put on a tourniquet, and just wanted to go home to "think about it" huh? Told his friend to get the car and take him to the E.R we were about 20 miles from the hospital and tell the ER likely to be the two types of snakes, I was pretty sure copperhead.

If I never cross paths with a venomous snake whilst playing, I can live with that.

Played a round Saturday in 30-40 mph winds. It's a course I struggle on and +5 to +8 is a typical score for me. I went into the round thinking with the winds that +15 would be a good round. Ended up +18 so under the conditions I wasn't too upset. Actually managed to birdie a hole that I typically can't manage to birdie so that was a nice bonus. Also, managing the wind off the tee and on approach shots went very well for me. Where I really struggled was putting outside of 15 feet in those winds. Lots of two and three putts and a four putt with an out of bounds blow/roll away on one hole.

Tough round in the wind in a tough course but still rather be out playing than not playing.

I've been playing for a year and have had a hard time dialing in my hyzer flips (I can't throw one to save my life). I went out to one of our more challenging courses here on Sat and shot +9 (which i'm OK with...but not happy). Well, I watched a Robbie C video on how to throw hyzer flips - I practice what he taught in the video and lo and behold....I can throw a ****in hyzer flip now! I went to the same course yesterday and shot a +1! The only anni shots I threw were with intent and that makes me super hyped to keep playing and improving!

My son and I played a church 9 holer that i guess has become my home course. it is extremely technical, with narrow fairways on a hillside with very thick underbrush everywhere along with rock outcroppings , fallen tree limbs and a few sink holes with caves (very few backyard putts) my average is +3 . we also had an unusual gusting winds of 10 - 20 MPH which made putting very difficult and i shot +14 for 18 holes , by far my worst round in years.

we did however have a single highlight that was incredible. hole 6 goes slightly dowhill the first 100 feet and continues to fall off the last 200 feet to a flat rock with an elevated basket with a 10 - 15 ft drop off behind. we both got off the faiway about 200 ft off the tee in the rocks . my son was trying to lay up and threw a blind back hand with a new PIG at a sharp downward angle hoping to be near the base of the basket for some kind of putt. i was out in the fairway spotting and was about to comment "nice one"when one of the harder gusts coming up the hill lifted his disc at least 8 ft and slammed it HARD into the basket. he didn't get to see any of the flight and just stood there looking at me. needless to say there was no more hope for me getting "shot of the day" .

Played in my first sanctioned tourney since last Father's Day in my quest to remain above 900 rated before I turn 50 next year. Shot 900 and 917, made four c2 putts, only made what I'd consider a mistake that cost me a bogey stroke twice all day, including the first 27 holes bogey-free consecutively. Of course, I don't know if my actual rating will remain above 900 because a whole bunch of rounds are dropping from over a year ago. We shall see. I've never ever been below 900 since the ratings started in 1999.

My son shot his rating exactly and finished above the halfway point in a men's division, not bad for being in middle school track this year and not having a lot of time to practice. All smiles! Now I drag my carcass to another one today. We'll see it fares going up and down Meyer Broadway south's hills for a third and fourth round of the weekend...

Friend has a tough private course with loads of tight gaps and brutal untrod woods and thorns. My best is +1 and normally I'm +6 to +8.

Yesterday I shot +15 in the same winds as Emporia… when it's windy in the woods, it's windy period. Footing was also terrible after rains.

Played good, not great at league today. Shot -6 which was one off the lead and I had a rouge spit out and a really stupid roll away that went OB.

Should rate around 950 so I'm happy enough with it, but it will knock me down from the #2 to the #3 tag.

Oooof, the fourth round of the weekend nearly killed me! Up and down the hills of Meyer Broadway South was too much for this carcass. Worst rated round of my 24-year PDGA sanctioned career. Couldn't really coil and uncoil my body to throw hard, wound up in too many scramble situations trying to. I guess this is going to happen from time to time, and not everybody can be in Scott Stokely condition at this age. I mean...The first three rounds were fine. 900, 917, 906...then this 822. It sort of happened to me in this same back-to-back B-tier NADGT format last year at Meyer Broadway, but it was 40 points higher. It was 927, 927, 921, 866 in last year's event.

My son played in Am-3, beat me by a stroke in each round, and even played on lead card out of 27 players in Am-3 for that last round (which also stunk for him). A good showing for the 6th grader, though!

Despite that last round my spirits are still up where they need to be. Enjoyed the company of my fellow am masters players and throwing Frisbees in the woods beats everything else. I made sure to look skyward and take a few deep appreciative breaths even during that dog round.

Bad day of disc golf beats sitting on the couch.

Shot my second highest rated round ever today at a B-Tier on a brand new woods course here. After 12 holes I was second only behind our local semi-touring pro. Ended up blowing up a bit on the final 6 but still ended the day in a T9 in MPO. Here's hoping I can clean up a few mistakes and capitalize on my good throws tomorrow.

I played Wildwood in Ottumwa, IA, today. Played OK, honestly shot 75, or +20. Was WHO I was with that was cool. As I was setting up, a guy came and asked if I had played before. Said, Nope! He said, You're in Luck. I'm Bob, one of the course designers. On about hole #2, he mentions winning the State Open Championship on this course in the late 70s, back when it was still an object course. He helped design the course in 1979 and re-design the course in 2020. Showed me around, pointed out the other tees and other basket placements. I really enjoyed my round with Bob. Looked him up after I got home....Robert Kramer, 7-time Iowa State Open Disc Golf Champion (more than anyone), member of the Iowa Disc Golf Hall of Fame, and a nice guy to throw a round with. Awesome course, too.

A day where disc gets stuck 30+ feet up in a tree, bag gets stuck in a different tree trying to throw at disc, long branch gets bag back, other disc gets disc back. lulz :|

Shot my best ever round of -11 from the shorts at TC Jester Saturday. Was consistent off the tee the whole round in getting drives 20-30 out from the pin, and was able to make the putts on all but a few. Sadly one of the putting misses resulted in a 3 putt and the lone bogey. Had a slight cold stretch in the middle and was impressed with fighting back to birdie 7 of the final 8 holes.

Played a B-tier this weekend. Parked a 455ft hole and had two 475foot drives! Averaged a 900 rating despite missing 3 15 foot putts lol

I usually shoot between a +1 and +5 on most courses. My biggest struggle is 100-175ft. Yesterday i had the worst round of my life. First throw stuck in tree. Grip ripping everything. Missing easy putts. For some reason i didnt have any power. I was most likely in the +20 range.

Im glad i had that round and im sure i will have more like that in the future. We either succeed or we learn and it was a big learning day for me.
