I feel like every two years or so I go to my collection of putters and I'm tempted to break out a new pair. The reasons why can differ, maybe the old ones got understable, maybe I'm just bored.

So I am curious how long is the life cycle of your main putters? Does this differ based on stiffness or other factors? How long have you had the main putter that's in your bag right now?

Oh wow......
Your putters are older than me......

That's actually pretty dam cool!

But begs the question......do they ACTUALLY work???
Putting has always been a strong part of my game. Yeah they still work lol

I'll let you know when I quit changing molds so frequently

More seriously though, the ones that have lasted more than 3 years in the bag...I tend to have a stack where I'm 'wearing in' a new one every other year to add to the bag.

I switched to Classic Aviars about a year ago.

I have a stack of 6 that I use for practice. I have no problem using any of them for a round. I also have 2 fresh ones that I don't use for practice at all and I'll carry one for rounds with a bit of wind.

The only way I'll quit using one is if I put it in the water on a missed putt or I forget one in a basket.

For my bag, I swap out my putter once during the season. My girls want to look pretty. When they feel pretty and good about themselves, they are more at ease hanging out in the basket, for everyone to see. Happy putters....happy putting....happy life.

I'd rather have the old lot lizard that knows what she's doing versus the cute little doe-eyed idiot. :\

I like fresh putters and swap them out more than any other disc. Sometimes it is because they have gotten some wear but sometimes it is just to symbolically put my head in a different place if i feel things are not going as i would like.

I tried different putters until I got a Legacy Gravity Clutch. Been using it now for 18 months or so. It's pretty dirty and beat-up looking, but still does the job. I got a brand new one thinking I'd swap them out....nope, still using the old, beat-up one - it still does the job so why change it out.

SO what are your reasons for changing?

Early on, I changed molds, plastic, weight, etc trying to find what worked/felt best for me.

Years ago, I landed on:
For putting: 173-174 APX's (swirls and regulars).
Throwing/upshots: 173-174 FLX Challenger.

I still have 4 swirls, but haven't bagged one of them for at least 3-4 years. Not that they fly any different... I just don't see a reason to.

Only time I'd replace my Challenger is if I lose it somehow. Not likely I'll lose my APX since I hardly ever use it for shots over 100'.

Obviously technique plays a role, but let's face it:

The biggest problem any of us has putting is between our ears. I can certainly appreciate how switching them out can put your head in a better place. Whatever it takes to get rid of that bad mojo.

I know good putters who put a fresh pair in the bag every year and others that are slinging 20 year old wizards that are beat to hell. It all depends on what works for you and gives you confidence.
There's no wrong way to eat a Reese's...
