Review by rickgz in course Friends of Punderson DGC

4.00 star(s) Punderson gets better and better, now with Island Hole! Where do I start? Excellent signs. 3 Extra large Tee Pads for every hole. Each one changes how you play the hole. Long baskets on several holes including the new Island Basket for Hole 2. This is a true island shot, throwing to an...

Tell us about a bad experience

OK, here goes... About 5 years ago I played a tournament where there was a mando "island hole" without a drop zone just a re-tee at the box with penalty stroke. And you were not allowed to retrieve your disc and there was a strong wind. After my first shot looked like an ace run but skipped...

    Fossa Backpack

I got a Fossa Pro for Christmas. My first back pack style bag. So far I like it a lot. But as with many other things in life, you tend to fill up whatever available space you have, so I still don't feel that I have enough "extra space. But if I did, I would probably just putt useless stuff...

How do you organize your discs in bag?

I don' carry as many discs as some, but I am sure more than others. I am currently carrying 2 putters, 3 mids, and 9 drivers. I arrange them as follows, the putters in the outside pocket, the main compartment starts with my mids, then my drivers arranged by color. As I don't carry all that...

How long did you play before breaking par?

At some courses never! But at my home course Sims Park where I learned to play, it was about 3 seasons before I started hitting par and sometimes coming a couple of strokes under. 8 years later, I still occasional shoot 3-4 over par or 3-4 under, but my average score is still right around par...

[Mids] Stable midrange between an Envy and a Teebird

I use a Discraft Wasp as my stable midrange. I love the predictable fade back to the basket. It is my go to disc for when I want my upshot to fade left. Also works pretty well for S shots. Rick G

How many discs do you use per round?

I carry 14 discs, but only use 6-9 of them during any specific round. Rick G

Foot Faults at World by Stokely

That is an interesting idea, one that I like on first thought. I have been guilty in the past on my upshots when using a run up. I even did just as suggested and started doing my upshots from a stand. My scores actually improved for a while too, Only recently have I started using an X step...

Foot Faults at World by Stokely

I think Scott is being a good sport about all of this. I met Scott when he did a clinic for my doubles league a couple of weeks ago. I went to watch the finals, and ran into Scott just before the final 9, not knowing any of this controversy, or even if he made the final 9 or not. I introduced...

    2015 Pro Worlds

I watched that drive from about 1/2 way down the hill. I was with Red who competed in Senior Grand Masters and we both went HOLY SH*T!!! As that disc kept on going, going going. And then almost nailing his 100 foot upshot for a Duece, that is one of the most amazing holes I have ever seen! Rick G

[Mids] What mids do you bag?

KC Pro Roc for straight and short annies. Elite Z Wasp for predictable fade left and headwinds. Rick G

How having a motorcycle is going to improve my disc golf game :-)

Another rider thrower here. I have combined disc golf on many motorcycle trips even bringing extra discs so I can introduce new players. I am a BMW guy so my bikes always have luggage or a good luggage rack. My latest has a top box as does my Vespa where my bag fits in perfect. I am also an...

    Finder's fee

There is a guy at one of my local courses that has a lake, who wades in and retrieves discs. He hangs out in the parking lot before scrambles or on the weekend and sells them for 3-5 bucks a piece. But if you find one with your name or a buddy's name he just gives them to you. I think that is...

What are the most valuable lessons you've learned while disc golfing?

Here are mine: During tournament play: Take a stroke to save a stroke. Throw what you know how to throw. By following those 2 simple rules, your scores will improve. Rick G

Destination cities for quality AND quantity?

I was just going to say Pittsburgh! In addition to the courses there, you are only 2.5 hours from Cleveland which now boast 6 or more course in the area that are worth playing, especially Punderson, Parma, Sims, Lakeshore, Medina etc. Plus both cities (Pittsburgh & Cleveland) have other things...

    The Elusive Ace

That worked for me. My first Ace was in the first Ace Race I had played in during about my 2nd or 3rd year playing. It showed me that it was possible even though it was a shortened hole. My first ace in an actual round was a couple of years later on the shortest hole at my local course that...

    Chosing a pairing of Mids

I only use 2 mids. Both I consider my "go to" disc depending on what I need to do. The one I have used the longest is the KC Pro Roc 175g. Love that disc and will probably always have one in my bag. A Roc can be put on just about any line but I primarily use it for straight shots, annie's...
