[Discraft] Paul's New Fairway (Anax)

Also curious if any other plastics have been announced. Loving it and kind of hoping for a slightly more stable version in either Elite Z or CryZtal to bump out the criminals once and for all.

From Scott at Discraft...

The Anax disc is currently only available in First Run ESP plastic. If/when we expand our line to offer the Anax in other plastics, it's likely we'll offer it in Z plastic first (possibly in Big Z as well, and/or other Z plastic variations). That won't happen until sometime in 2020, if at all.

We don't have plans at this time to offer the disc in Elite X plastic, but it's certainly possible that we will eventually. It's largely going to be up to Paul McBeth whether -- and when -- that happens.

The Swirl on the new ESP Anax - Paul McBeth 1060 Tour Series looks to be insane. . me like :)

So true. Discraft is really dialed in on this one.

I looked thru 162 discs on one site, 143 on another, and probably 60 more on three other sites with pix of the actual 1060's for sale.

The unique sets of colors, swirls, bursts, streamers, cirrus cloud tails, tadpoles, spiral arms, plus the variety of foil or regular color stamps - wow.

Mad props to the line workers who made the custom manufacturing all happen.

The Anax was already fun to throw, but the 1060 looks like it's going to be irresistibly fun to bag and keep throwing for a long time. And irresistible to collect.

Wonder how the 1060 Anax will feel and fly. .

As of now i think the Proto Anax feels WAY better in the hand than the FR. . the outer rim on the FR is just not nice

Thinking of stocking up on the Proto . .

How has this thread not been bumped in months? Everyone change their minds on these?

Gmtata01

I would love to help, but the only ones I have thrown are 1060's. I like them. They hold straight and finish hard. Glide a long ways Right to Left on a Hyzer.

I am still not sure if there's room in the bag for it between PD2s and Predators. Its less OS than those, but I have plenty of beat in PD2s and Preds...

I have been throwing these since about August. I like them a lot. More bite than the vulture, but less bite than the predator. It is my new teebird/PD/Thunderbird disc. Pans well if cranked, hold straight and long with solid finish if thrown hard and flat, powers down well for tight hyzer and skips.

My feelings as well. The PD has been in and out of my bag a bit lately. Theres not a big gap between where I can push a teebird or power down a straighter PD2.
The Anax fits that space better than a PD, and I will keep carrying it. Maybe when it beats in some it will hold its own in my bag better.

My I used to cycle avengers, but its been a decade. The Anax is quite similar, maybe less high speed turn and more fade on the avenger.
I would love to do a side by side comparison and test.

The Anax is interesting to me, the numbers are all weird. They claim 6 glide, which is a little ridiculous, 6 glide is like river or saint territory. They also call it a 10 speed, when it has a rim size traditionally considered an 8 speed.

I've thrown it, and it gets out there, but definitely not as far as something with a true 10 speed wing. It definitely is glidier than a thunderbird to me.

Got excited for an Avenger replacement, but my dreams have been crushed. I don't play enough to cycle premium plastic, unfortunately.

I dont see Paul wanting to run them in X.

A cycle of X, esp and Z avengers with a bookend pred did me well for a long time.

No, thunderbirds are way beefier. Might be close to a real beat in thunderbird, but I don't think a thunderbird will ever have the glide of an Anax.

Out of the box it flies like a 10/6/-0.5/3 to me.

So I just got some of the new restock of new Stock run Anax. Not sure if these are beefier or I've just been throwing my proto's for so long that they feel super beefy. Still got the same killer fade, but more resistance to turn. Also, the ones I got don't seem to have as much dome as the protos.

I bought a couple of Anax's to try a couple of weeks back and I've been surprised by how overstable these discs are. I've read a lot of reports of how glidey and straight they are and this is not at all my experience. I think the closest comparison I have is my stock run Lucid Felons, or my beefier Thunderbirds. They're very resistant to turn. Not a bad disc at all but not what I expected.

I kinda agree. I started bagging an ESP Anax last year. I use it on holes where an Explorer won't quite reach. The Anax won't turn, but I can force it over if needed. It holds a line well. I like ripping on the Anax with 100% power knowing what it'll do. The disc is dependable/accurate. I also feel like I can push the Anax out a little further than a Thunderbird.

I feel like the Anax is more of a 9 speed disc, and it definitely doesn't have 6 glide.

I'd rate the Anax at 9, 5, 0, 3. Maybe -0.5 turn if I really slam into it. Glide is good without being floaty. The Anax does well in the wind. Fade is somewhat sudden without being completely dumpy. The Anax is a really good "tweener" disc for me. It's basically a fairway driver that can be smashed out for long, accurate distance when needed.

IME any of the ANAX I have had in the Bag for more than 2 months get downright straight to turn. The esp of them just seems to beat in so quickly. I did purchase two of the first run Big Z ANAXs and they have held their beef the longest. Still very trusty wind fighters, but the esp is close to my max range drivers now. More consistent than my forces, but just a touch shorter.
