What is this abomination?

View attachment 313044

This is the latest review which is on the sidebar for desktop, and on mobile shows. This is using the list view, but shows the same in grid view

That helped a little…hadn't seen "latest reviews" tab before. Still wish "latest reviews" would be featured as prominently as the old site.

I really do place reading reviews at # 1 on my list here. "Trolling" the forums is only secondary and I really didn't comment much there until the War of Left Wing Moderation broke out.

It's also to the right of the "Sort by:" tab you can see "latest reviews". I like this view even better it gives you a course preview of sorts with pictures, holes, if it's hilly etc. I think this view is far superior to the old one IMO. I do agree that this view should be the first view we see on the tab instead of sort by: name. I also agree that course reviews and finding courses should be the number one priority of this site.

To me, it's a prime example of "fixing" something that doesn't need to be fixed. Change for the sake of change. The site was excellent. Having all the courses that were recently reviewed prominently featured horizontally on a section of the page was great, as was the ability to simply click a "search" icon to view a courses by state. The process took five seconds. This current incantation is WAAYYY too busy- too much stuff to sift through. I'm just one opinion, but I simply just want to easily look up courses and leave an occasional review.

The homepage redesign is in process, but I'm totally open to it if you'd like to mock something up and send it my way. I can't promise feasible, but my goal is to find maximum usability.
Something like the attached image is what I'm proposing for the home page. I have added red number 1-5 which are meant to denote features as follows.
1. I have to agree with others that I don't like the new logo. Is there a reason we can't use the old logo? I think it would be fun to keep the retro logo.
2. I removed some of the buttons at the top. To me the key features of the site are Courses and Forums. Members is good to have prominently there too. All the other stuff matters less so I'm proposing we add a "More" button with a drop down list to get to Discs, Calendar, and so on. When you click "Courses", then it can go to something like the current home page with the full page table of courses.
3. This is a large format tile with a photo along with info about a single randomly selected course. It changes every day. Sort of like the old site had, but with more info about that course right on the home page.
4. Top Rated courses and Most Played courses, starting with #1 at the top and showing the top 10 on the home page.
5. Latest Reviews and Latest Forum Posts. As they are now, except that the height of each forum post entry should be the same height as each review entry (as opposed to forum post entries currently being smaller). These could just go all the way down to the bottom of the page (so however much room it takes to show the ten course tiles).

@greens let me know what you think! Also everyone else let me know if you like this, what you would tweak, etc.! Constructive discussion is going to be the best way to dial this in in a way that more people are happy with.

😎

Nice design suggestion DFrah!

I am done using this site tho, the UI is just freaking terrible. I can't believe this is supposed to be an upgrade.

I like it DFrah, nice layout. As a fellow mostly desktop user I find this a vast improvement.

Couple points from my end: I don't mind the new logo, I always found the old one to be a bit cartoony. Also I have been on the forums and posted a couple reviews today and found these to actually be an improvement for the most part. So once the main page gets sorted out myself (and I'm sure others) will perhaps get used to and maybe just enjoy the modernization.

For real though, Sillybizz is boss and you should go back to the regular format which is good enough.

The thing that puts you behind UDisc (whose review-system is absolute garbage) is the scoring app. If you make a better scoring app, you'll rule the domain.

How dare you sir!!!

I am a diamond member and I DEMAND that this "silly" bizz be escorted at once from the premises
We don't listen to you Canadian types around here my friend! We're better than that! USA! USA! USA! ;)

Give it a few weeks and return. XenForo is a forum software that is inherently unfriendly to navigation, but greens has claimed this project is personal for him. If it is he will keep listening to and working on the user base's UI suggestions. It can be modded out.

Keep your fingers crossed.

I absolutely LOVE the pencil basket logo. Some variant on that would be amazing to have continue with the site. I don't care if it is dramatically different, but the pencil basket idea is fantastic and unique as a base to work from.

I love your layout and suggestions in general. I think that's a vast improvement for the homepage. I, too, am a fan of the old logo, but can accept some level of modernization. Change is always hard, and some updates to the site like that are things people will grow to be used to.

Things I miss are definitely in part addressed by DFrah's layout. I also have no idea now how to know if the TR levels are the same, how close I am to achieving them, etc. I miss the achievements and fear those are intentionally gone. Admittedly, it's probably a small subset who really care about that.

By all accounts uploading photos has vastly improved - that's great! That was a rather clunky part of the site before. The road trip planner was also super buggy. I liked using it but it needed some improvement; I'm not sure if that even exists now though. Forums having the same login and the general layout of the forums seems like a huge improvement, so there are good things here.

I also prefer the Top Courses sorted by numerical value. It seems like the number of reviews is being factored in now but there's no clear way to tell how. The biggest thing separating us from UDisc is our reviews and ratings are actually objective and not skewed way too high.

Side note: as someone who has been getting piled on by assholes at work all year simply because I'm in a position where they can bitch about everything I do... I feel for @greens here. By all accounts, he wants to improve the site and is listening to constructive feedback, so I really would encourage everyone to be positive. Like it or not, he's put a ton of work into this site and it's super demoralizing for everyone to just tell you all of the ways you've failed to please them. He has a good attitude about trying to make the site the best it can be so let's work with that constructively and highlight the things that have improved, because there definitely are several improvements already.

Ooooh, I haven't seen that uploading photos has improved - that indeed was previously too annoying to be worth contributing to. I don't want to be entirely negative admins, so thanks Espresso for alerting me to this positive change :)
