What is this abomination?

You might say, "who is this dunce 'cefire' and why is he posting so much?"

Totally agree about the logo. I guess that's what I mean. I don't want "the same" logo necessarily. But I want a modernization of the old logo, something that still has the pencil basket.

Side note: This forum is SO MUCH better. It's almost like, a modern thing.

So many years of no change then all this madness at once not even baby steps no warning, nothing, I don't even know how to tell this site a course I played at anymore, or find the courses I have played. Not a fan,,,,

I love your layout and suggestions in general. I think that's a vast improvement for the homepage. I, too, am a fan of the old logo, but can accept some level of modernization. Change is always hard, and some updates to the site like that are things people will grow to be used to.

Things I miss are definitely in part addressed by DFrah's layout. I also have no idea now how to know if the TR levels are the same, how close I am to achieving them, etc. I miss the achievements and fear those are intentionally gone. Admittedly, it's probably a small subset who really care about that.

By all accounts uploading photos has vastly improved - that's great! That was a rather clunky part of the site before. The road trip planner was also super buggy. I liked using it but it needed some improvement; I'm not sure if that even exists now though. Forums having the same login and the general layout of the forums seems like a huge improvement, so there are good things here.

I also prefer the Top Courses sorted by numerical value. It seems like the number of reviews is being factored in now but there's no clear way to tell how. The biggest thing separating us from UDisc is our reviews and ratings are actually objective and not skewed way too high.
Something like the attached image is what I'm proposing for the home page. I have added red number 1-5 which are meant to denote features as follows.
1. I have to agree with others that I don't like the new logo. Is there a reason we can't use the old logo? I think it would be fun to keep the retro logo.
2. I removed some of the buttons at the top. To me the key features of the site are Courses and Forums. Members is good to have prominently there too. All the other stuff matters less so I'm proposing we add a "More" button with a drop down list to get to Discs, Calendar, and so on. When you click "Courses", then it can go to something like the current home page with the full page table of courses. -i like the new 'what's new' & think it should remain as a main button
3. This is a large format tile with a photo along with info about a single randomly selected course. It changes every day. Sort of like the old site had, but with more info about that course right on the home page.
4. Top Rated courses and Most Played courses, starting with #1 at the top and showing the top 10 on the home page.
5. Latest Reviews and Latest Forum Posts. As they are now, except that the height of each forum post entry should be the same height as each review entry (as opposed to forum post entries currently being smaller). These could just go all the way down to the bottom of the page (so however much room it takes to show the ten course tiles).

@greens let me know what you think! Also everyone else let me know if you like this, what you would tweak, etc.! Constructive discussion is going to be the best way to dial this in in a way that more people are happy with.

😎
i highlighted what i like in these post quotes (i like all of dfrah's changes).

Easy embedding photos in posts is great!

I think once we all get over the sudden shock and get things figured out, and once the powers that be get the kinks worked out (which they seem to be working hard at), I think things are gonna be pretty good.
This!

I would like to second the bringing back of the achievements. I liked to go through and see the members that had the most countries, or photos uploaded or miles walked. For some reason, I like meaningless stats and leaderboards and really will miss that feature. I also enjoyed chasing achievements and working toward them.

it's comming back :)
Top members and achievements will be back soon

I mostly use a desktop to view and I'm not crazy about the updated. I'm also not crazy about the logo, looks like a refresh button. I liked the use of the pencil basket in the old logo. Current home page isn't a home page, it's a browse courses page. The browse map doesn't seem to have the radius option so not sure what radius is being used. I would love to just see all courses all the time and just zoom in and out and not have to reclick as I move the map to load the courses again. The topper bagger section and sort members by courses played seems to be gone. These were two features I used a lot. The main reason I use this site is for the directory of courses and the ability to track those courses and see silly stats/milestones based on what I've played. Review are helpful and set this site apart from Udisc. I do wish being able to give a rating without a review was a thing but understand keeping it linked to the review. Another major thing I use this site for is trip planning and having a printer friendly option of a course's course info page is really important to me. I print these and maps in case the courses are in areas with no service which they often are. The forums seemed improved but wasn't something I used enough that I was bothered with the old or will be bothered by the new. If the forum was the big reason for the update I'm not sure why we could have kept the website side of things more true to the old layout.

The word for this this redesign is "business killer". Hope whoever owns this is taking notes, so that he won't destroy the value of their next investment. If this site stays like this, then good night Irene to DGCR. The old home page encompassed everything that was good about this site. Now the home page just makes me want to vomit. When you look for courses you look in an area. Stupid to have all these course from all over the world populate the entire home page , and the entire home page, when the old home page included pretty much all the types of content you can find on this site. Owners of this site just gave UDisc a huge leg up. The green font is entirely unreadable to me as well.
Agree 100%. I was legit upset for a few days. Now I'm in the acceptance stage. I definitely won't be using the site as much. Too similar to a social media site now. Dozens of useful SM sites already exist- why try to copy their format?? The reason I Ioved DGCR was bc it WAS different. Smh

I miss how the most recently commented threads had a list right there on the front page and it was easy to see what everybody was talking about right now. I almost never strayed from those while visiting here daily on the old site. I'm still in the habit of checking here on my daily website rounds but I find myself just staring at all the clutter, not seeing what the big current conversation is, and pretty much leaving right away.

The other reason I'd stop by here was to look up a new course or to find out what courses are out there in an area I'm visiting or whatever. This isn't something I'd be doing daily, just a handful of times per year. Haven't had to do that yet on the new site.

I'm now closer to 100 than birth and don't like change and hate doing stuff on cell phones. Is this redesign because it makes it better on cell phones? I've never once used DGCR on a phone.

I rarely post. Gave myself time to get used to the new look and figure out where all the stuff I care about was at. I think it will be fine in the end and be different enough from all the social media platforms.
But that logo is dog doo. It's a disc golf website, that green thing just looks like a refresh button.

I think there is a lot of agreement regarding the logo. The staff has said it is only a placeholder and there will be a better logo in the near future.
