Seriously times are tuff so maybe some of you TD's or tech savvy peeps can answer this for me?

I live in Cincinnati and plan to play alot of tournaments this year. Many of the tournaments I play in offer a pre registration and the TD's always try and get us to pre-register.... however there is always a 2$fee. For the local tournaments that I know wont fill up I dont plan to pre register. I know 2$ is not alot of money but lets say i pay and sign up day of for 15 tournaments ......that saves me 30bucks for the year.

Is my only worry in using this strategy missing a tournament because of a full field? I know sometimes I miss a players pack for not being one of the first 50 but typically I avoid these tournaments as I dont like that policy.

Whats the purpose of this fee? Is it because of the internet service or is it for the TD?

That why I always try to pay them personally because of that crap. Titledisc does it along with everyone else down here and I think its crap. They already make money off the ams as it is and now they try to get more

ROC1time- Do you mail them a check im guessing?

Does Paypal charge an extra 2$ aswell?

Paypal charges you for everything! I either tell them I will send them a check or I pay when I get there. I know most TD's, because I have been around awhile, and they mark me down ahead of time because my "word" is still good and they know that I will show up and pay. Over time hopefully they will do the same for you

The point of pre reg is so the TD can buy things in advanced. Also where im at its 5 bucks extra day of the tournament if you don't pre reg.

I dont think anyone has a problem with pre-reg. They have problems with paying 2-3 bucks TO pre-reg.

Same here but also knowing the guys saves me the extra 5

From what I gather it is the disc shop or whatever registration service that gets the money too, not the TD.

I checked Paypal says it does not charge for payment or sending money from a bank account am I reading this wrong?

YOU don't pay but the guy getting the money does.

Easy example, you send me $10, paypal takes $.59 and I see $9.41.

The fee almost 100% goes to the bank for credit card processing with a small amount going for providing the online registration service. The TD (or PDGA) does not get anything other than you helping them plan better by preregistration.

ok thats a good answer for one of my questions. Much appreciated

the "almost 100%" makes me think though. Obviously not about you but the TD's around me

Exactly! Thats another reason why people that use Ebay or paypal charge you a lttle more to cover thier expense

Bingo. Not much the TD's can really do about this. Even the PDGA charges a $3 fee per order. When I renewed last month, I just signed up for two years so its $1.50/year.

I did sign up for a tournament last night online. There was no extra fee tacked on (Paypal), but I'm assuming the TD just embedded the fee in the registration price. This is how everyone from the grocery stores to the gas stations deal with it.

(hopefully) in most cases it's to cover the fees associated with credit cards and paypal. You mostly also get charged for a return on a card, how credit card companies have not paid for a casino on the moon I'll never know. From what I understand (most) TD's do not make much money on tournaments.

Ok I dont see anyway to "take down the man" on the pre-reg fee without paying day of. Has anyone ever missed a tournament due to this? I know I'll pre register for the Hambrick because its a major and fills up fast.

I guess I may just be getting up earlier day of tourney. Roc1time your a lucky man.

Yes I am but I have also missed out on tourneys here and there because I refuse to pay the "man". It sucks but has only happened a couple of times and luckily over time I have become fortunate not to get screwed too much but there are those guys that still want their extra couple of bucks. But I have also lost more then I have paid, thanks to that POS Rick Bannister and yes I did call you out if anyone knows him!
