Courses that make you relieved you shot 8 over

Played Nockamixon myself last summer. Great course but it is extremly hard for some reason. Holes are long, but not unreachable in 3 or 4, it's just......I don't know. You have to play it to understand.

hahahaha perfect sentiment...it's like every hole you think I can par this no problem and then it has a way of exposing your mistakes......I am sure that 99% of the members on this site would ever throw par at Nocky....its a humbling experience

Sontag Disc Golf Course, Franklin Co., VA.

I consistently shoot 5-10 over and leave that place feeling pretty good most of the time and this is from the whites @ 7210/65. Blues and the toughest I've ever played @ 8745ft/65.

Sontag Open July 2 & 3 ............. 2rds sat.(whites & blues) 2 rds sun.(reds & whites) Come on out if you think you can handle it.

I just looked at the pictures of Nevin. W O W !!!! That course isn't even fair, honestly I don't know how a pro would even score under par here. 685' Par4 through insanely long tight wooded fairways is for the birds! Oh, and not to mention baskets placement is just sickening!

In otherwords, I can't wait to get punished.

Ozark Mtn! Dave MaCs personal play ground. Was really happy 1st round with a 3 over 75 then 2nd round was happier with a 81 +9. I was tired and it is long.

I've played many of the courses mentioned in this thread; and they fit the bill; but Ozark is the king of toughness. I believe it has the toughest SSA in the world.

I shot a +8 at Flyboy (103 on a par 95) last weekend and felt like I had a decent round. But Kelly played with us and showed us all up with an 83.

Kelly is a seriously good golfer, plus he knows that course very well,he put up a couple under par last time I was out there I think,my first time there I shot better than the last time, and i've gotten better, depressing :(

At West Lake (Davenport IA), it is best to just count everything par 4, makes it easier to keep track of where you're at relative to par.

24 holes, Am tees SSA 68, Pro tees SSA 84.

Course record is in the mid-70s I think. There's four holes out there where a 3 is a legit eagle, and I feel really good about a 5 on any of those.

Scores in the 70s are quite quality for West Lake...80s not bad either! I've seen some 90s.

These same numbers are true for Ozark and it's only 18.

Not very many courses like that in Florida. Tradewinds would be the only one I can think of that would come close. There are so many holes 400+ with ridiculous gusting winds all over the place.

Basically just post courses where you shoot way over and feel like you had a solid round; and left grateful you had all of your discs still.

My example is Leigh Farms because I played from the Advanced Gold tees for the first time today and every basket was in the long position. I finished up with a 68 (7+) and honestly I felt happy to get that. It took some insanely skilled (lucky) second shots out of deep woods to keep me close to par on some holes.

Yup, in the Raleigh area, Leigh Farm golds is the killer - especially now when the pins are in the long/long position. I think the lowest score on the advanced is 62, but that was before the redesign of some holes. A 68 on gold (and long/long) is very impressive. I would also put Valley Springs Park blue tees in this category.

I shot +12 at Gateway west in FW and the other 2 guys I was playing with were both well into the 20's so I felt pretty good about that score. Gnarly woods and long holes and not all listed as par 3. Several 4's and 5's. that was a couple of years ago and the course was new so if they have cleared some of the undergrowth it could be a little easier now.

If par is marked properly, I've never been relieved or even remotely happy shooting +8.

Going with West Lake also. This course is a beast. I played from the red (AM) tees and still shot a 91. I am really surprised the rating for the course isn't much higher either.

does 7 over count?? Shot a 61 at Blockhouse - Darkside this week the second time I played it. That felt pretty good, especially considering I dropped a 72 the day before first time through.

darkside= par 56 (holes 2 and 7 are most definitely 4's)

i agree with the idea that i'm never going to be happy shooting 8 over with holes being assigned appropriate pars. if you're playing the "all par 3" nonsense then there are tons of course where i'd be happy to shoot 62.

Hart Park the suicide flats course, Bakersfield, CA. I swear a majority of the holes I threw my longest disc twice to get to the pins. Even the short holes are difficult. Nice park, fun to play, but a really long course.

do those holes average closer to 4 per SSA? They are tough for sure but wasn't sure if they were legit par 4's. I played it with a good Adv player and his drives were 50-60' from the pin on both.

since ssa is calculated by round score rather than hole score it's hard to tell.

your playing partner nailed both of the drives but that is not a common occurence even among top shelf players. my guess is he would be unlikely to replicate both in a given round.

i have played them both many times with a wide variety of players and have only seen a handful of two's on them combined and many many 5's or worse.
