[Discmania] discmania FD- jackal ...its coming

As of now i carry 2 fd's and 3 pd's

Cpd - freshy and overstable
Spd - seasoned,very straight,nice lss still
Spd - beat - understable but will fight back at the end(sort of like the 3rd run cfd)
Cfd (2ndrun) - straight,very little lss
Gfd - seasoned - very understable,bh roller disc,low powered shots,big sweeping annys

I've have 4 third run huk lab stamped FD's that I still have yet to even throw. With my s-lines and 2nd run c-lines I have yet to find a line that these can't hit as far as fare way duties go.

I have a pretty big stash of both 2nd run and max weight s lines... I think these 3rd runs are going to collect dust..

I am still buying 2nd runs simply out of fear (the only truly oop run in my bag)

for anyone who is looking for a tried and true FD fairway set up:

175 S-line Jackal: Worn, Simply put: power up and you have a long turn over, power down with a smooth flat release (70%) you have one of the straightest discs in existence. Very reminiscent of a leo

175 S-line Jackal: Fresh I don't even throw this one, it's kept with the intention of back up/cycle but even after 3+ seasons my current S-line seems to get better/more useful as time goes on.

167 2nd Run C-line: Worn, When seasoned 2nd runs retain a lot of their HSS and loose the LSS. Very straight flyer to small fade. Reminiscent of a sweet spot Teebird

175 2nd Run C-line: Fresh, Very straight to stable finish fights mild headwinds, and rivals the HSS/LSS of a fresh teebird/banshee.

FD's are a varied and useful mold. You can achieve almost ALL lines with different runs of FD's while still throwing the same mold (feel the same in the hand) which is a good tool for anyone who is trying to run a minimalist setup. I myself have been able to keep my tourney bag down to six molds and improve my overall scores/pdga rating with the addition of FD's.

the only truly flat FD's are one or two early S-Line batches (I've only heard of them, never seen/felt one) and 2nd run C-lines.

Profile wise (current runs) they are extremely similar to teebirds/TL's

in order of domeyness most to least would be:

S-line

3rd/4th run C-line

2nd run C-line (very flat/stiff/pearly/bubbles in rim) these are technically OOP but can still be found with relative ease... but don't buy them.. I need more..

what do ya know. My C-FD is not only super flat but has bubbles in the rim!

Nice setup! What's distances/shot selection are you using for the PDs and FDs.

So this is a 3rd run then?

I picked up a G line FD when they were released. Such an amazing disc. I don't know how I lived without it. It's strange to not through my Saint anymore. The FD gets it done. And the grippy G-line plastic feels great v

^ hopefully yours doesnt break in fast, mine did and its super flippy now.

Jack daniels i use the fd's up to about 350 ish or so,mainly using it as a longer midrange/ fairway when my pd is too much or i dont need that low speed fade the pd has. I throw lots of buzzz shots and if i feel the need to go longer, the cfd comes out. My gfd is primarily a bh roller/sky anny disc,i rarely use it off the tee unless i need to bend a corner, stand still shots with it are also what i use it for.

Pds are more of the workhorse though depending on the course,i use them from 300+ depending on the hole.

Normally,i dont pay attention to distances on signs,i usually just throw what i feel is comfortable. If the hole is 250ish i would throw a putter, mid,fd or pd. Just depends on the line or hole.

this x1000000!!! There are quite a few holes like this through a few local courses. Straight shot from the tee, out about 250', and playing from there, around a sharp corner. Holes like that are tough because you need a straight shot out, you try to hyzer it around the corner and skip, you're likely to skip into OB. I love throwing the putter on these holes and watching the faces of my friends when my putter goes as far as their fairways.

Awesome man thanks! And that's exactly what I'm looking for. I do the same thing and never use rules like "oh this hole is 250 looks like I better use a putter". It's more about what lines need to be hit and that's why I love the PDs. I can power down on them and create some really nice workable lines.

What I'm looking for in the FD is exactly that. Something without the lss of the PD and for little more distance then the mids. I also wanted to find a mold I can get the same disc in a base line and have for a roller turnover disc like the D FD, however if your G line seemed to work in to this spot pretty quickly I may try that instead. What weight, color, top is your G FD?

The gfd will work fine into a great roller, doesnt take nearly as long as it does to beat in regular s line. My fd was from the deep in the game tour bus, light orange, mild dome, 175g. I played my fav course and week after week i watched it lose stability,i hated that at first but ive learned to love it. G line/g* is just much softer than traditional s line so it breaks in faster. For the sake of mold minimalism,i dropped the std(my original bh roller) and the fd2 for the cfd and gfd. Its a great disc so im sure thats what your looking for to fill that spot in between pds and mids.

First runs are money, I have a couple of them and love them paired with my second run. If that blue one doesn't feel like the newer JL plastic it's a first run
