So I'm trying to come up with some attainable goals to work toward and while playing at oak grove a couple weeks ago I thought it would be cool to play the 10 or 15 oldest courses. I know oak grove was the 1st course ever and huntington beach is 2nd I think. Anybody know where it goes from there?

According to all available reports, there were about half a dozen courses that were 2nd. So just getting Oak Grove and all the 2nds would be pretty good.

West Park in Joliet is the oldest in IL, installed in 1979. I don't think there are all that great of records of which courses were installed in what order, maybe just look at all the courses with install dates before 1980 and work on that list?

The course at Joseph Davis State Park was established in 1980. At least the original 18 was. In 1997 it was expanded to 27. JD or the Dizzle is located in Lewiston, NY. And although technically owned by the state the park is now operated by the Town of Lewiston.

If this course is on your radar you should definitely make it a point to play soon. The Town of Lewiston is planning on making a few changes that may include eliminating 3 or 4 of the original basket locations.

Send a PM to rizbee and see if he can point you in the right direction. He helped put together the PDGA directory and should have some idea of where to go.

I've always been told Tourist Park in Cedar Falls, IA is 3rd. Could be wrong but there is an annual tournament that has been played there every year for the last 28 years.

Brahan Springs DGC in Huntsville alabama was put in the ground in 1976 and if my memory is correct I think I saw a sign at the kiosk claiming that it is the oldest course that is still in its original configuration. It's a fun course to play as well.

The sign at Brahan does say that, but it is not exactly true. The course has always been in that location, but many of the holes have changed over the years. Still a great course!

Install dates on here suggest that the La Mirada front course is actually the second course.

That being said, there are about a half dozen or so sites around the country claiming that they are the second or third course installed, and there isn't exactly an established standard on what constitutes an "installation" now, let alone the 1970's.

Nonetheless, there are 50 courses in the directory with a 1970's installation date. That would be a pretty cool goal to go after.

I've heard that too, but on their DGCR pages Adler Park claims 1978 to West Park's 1979.

Collecting each state's #1 course (or as many as possible) could also be entertaining.

Per DGCR pages, Honey Bear Hollow claims to me IN's #1. Designed by Ed Headrick, no less!

I've heard conflicting reports on Adler and West. The one I've heard the most is that Adler was designed and the baskets were ordered first, but West was in the ground first. Also, Adler is no longer anything like the original course, it's down to a 9 from the original 18, I think West is a little closer to what went in back then.

I think Wingdeer Park here in Johnson City,TN was built in the early 80's as a 9 hole course. It wasn't until 6 years ago that the other 9 were put in.

Not sure if this one would count or not.

Right now I'm working on cleaning it up a bit. I have 6 holes done and I have 12 more to go.

Winged Deer's page says 1992. Warriors Path is listed as 1980.
