I threw one of my favorite discs(oop mrx) on hole 18 at my home course. It rolled down a hill and into the parking lot. It wasn't a serious round so I just said "screw it, I'll grab it on our way out" and walked with my friends to finish out the hole. Of course I forgot about it and drove away. Later I realized, went back and it was gone. Had my name and number on it but never heard anything, I would check our unofficial lost and found(under the trash can by the first tee) everyday, but didn't see it there. I had basically figured it was gone. Then about 2 months later I had given up checking under the trash can, but I had a funny feeling one day. So I checked, and there it was! Thank the karma gods! Anyone else have any disc return stories?

I almost always get my water discs (discs I bring to water courses so I don't sacrifice a good one) and discs that I didn't like and traded away. I never seem to get any of the good ones back or the ones that I draw on...

Glad someone gets the good ones back

The sad part is that both PD's and the Escape mentioned in that thread have all been lost again. Alas, I never sent the finders bubble mailers to get my discs back as much as I wanted to reward the parties who called me for doing the right thing.

The moral to this story is, don't get too attached to your plastic. You can't enjoy what it was meant for without risk of loss.

I lost a custom dyed disc up in the chicagoland area and the next day received a call from someone who found it. i was already hours away and was not going to be back to chicago for a while. so i asked if i sent him a disc in exchange for it would he ship it to me. lo and behold, a few weeks later i got my precious back.

unfortunately, my girlfriend then proceeded to throw it in the lake at our home course, and it has not been seen since.

I like this story better than "someone found my disc w/ my number on it, and then called me to tell me he was keeping it". I've had that happen. Not fun.

I live half a block away from the 9 holer in town and find a TON of discs because of the river and thick shule. I find more while walking my dog than actually discing. It amazes me how many ink free discs I find. I estimate 15% of the found discs have #'s on them, and of those, 50% have non-working #'s. Nice thing is that most of them are DX, so the original owner (hopefully) isn't going to miss them too much....and DX plastic fills the kid's bags nicely, not to mention the numerous times I've handed a Pro/DX Leopard to some kid at the park to replace the Groove or Vulcan they're meathooking all over the place.

When I first started out, I wrote all my contact info on my discs, and when I would lose one, I'd put up an entry on the local club web site, and on here in the stickied thread. One of my early fairway drivers was a 150 champ teebird, which I managed to lose in the pond at Lincoln Ridge, hole 22.

Months later, and several lost discs down the line, I got a call about a disc found at Boone Woods. I told him I'd never lost a disc there, but we agreed to meet and play a round at Lincoln Ridge, so I could have him pick one from my sale/trade bin. I really appreciated getting it back, and we laughed about the fact that it had clearly been 'found' by someone else in the interim. I complimented him on being a much nicer person that the previous 'finder'.

It was only the second time I'd ever had one returned, even though all the discs I've ever lost could be easily traced back to me. And my lesson learned is not to be too 'tricky' in asking folks details when I'm trying to return a found disc: there's a real good chance any disc I find wasn't originally lost where I found it, either!

Brand new limited edition Elite-Z Zone. On my very first throw I released early and it faded hard left towards thick ivy covered in leaves in the middle of some trees. After searching (and raking) the area for 2.5 hours, I finally figured Zones must have more glide than I thought, and it must have squeezed through the trees to the fast moving river beyond. I even checked the riverbank. Three months later, I got a call from Play it Again Sports. Besides a few water spots, the disc still looked new. It's now my goto forehand mid/approach disc.

Had the police call me on a disc I had lost years ago. They said it was found in a stolen car and wanted to talk to me about the car. Stopped inking my discs with info after that. Now a distinguishing mark and resignation to never getting it back once I stop looking for it.

I'm in possession of two discs that I'm sure the owners miss dearly but alas the contact info is bad… anyone know of a Dan Ellefson? How about a Jason "Leppy"? Two sweet discs found in Prescott, Az. One at School House Gulch and one at Watson Lake.

Twice I have had people call me to tell me they found my lost disc at a course I have never played. I got the discs back a bit more beat up then when I lost them.

I got my American Flag dyed XPress back over a year after I lost it at William Jewell. I know someone found it because I went back the next day and it was gone, but then I got a call a year later saying he had found the disc at the course. I was super excited and wasn't expecting to ever get that disc back.

Don't know either of them, but a couple of minutes Google-ing the names + 'disc golf' led to this guy...
...and though it's a stretch (to Ottawa), the other could conceivably be this guy...
anyone know them? :\

I have easily returned 30+ discs over the last 2 DG seasons (pond diving and creek checking). I've returned multiple discs to the same person before, and I've returned the same disc to one guy twice.

Never had any of my lost discs returned though. I have bought my own disc back from PIAS though....soooo thats kind of the same....looks like Earl Hickey was wrong, karma is a crock

i lost a c-pd during a glow round at schumaker pond back in january 2011. it lived in the pond for well over two years, and i just got it back less than a month ago. the light was still attached. it was no more than 25' from the edge of the water, and the area had been searched many times.

I had a GREAT colorshift Fuse go into a pond....got a call 6-8 months later that a guy found it on 13 holes later.

When there is owner info on a disc, I always give the owner a text or call, probably 20 or times since I started discing. I don't find (or lose for that matter) many discs nowadays. But, about 5 months ago I was playing a round at Lake Nacodoches after helping a buddy move when I lost a sweet Z Buzz. I tossed out an extra throw that faded out hard and planned to pick it up when holed out. Of course, I left it behind and wasn't expecting any kind of word about my lost disc. About a week later, i got a call from a guy who found it in Dallas of all places Being 5 hours away, I told him to keep it and said I hoped he could get some good use out of it.

It sucked losing one of my main throwers, but it was nice to know that some people still try to return disc to their original owners. Go Karma!

I had a XXX that I threw on a second or third shot and then spaced on in the middle of the fairway. When I realized it was gone from my bag I ran back to get it and it was gone. No phone calls or people acknowledging they picked it up. I had all but written it off, but about a year and a half later, I got a phone call from the course pro shop lost and found that someone had dropped it off. It had definitely been used and all I could think in my head was that I felt sorry for the person picking it up expecting it to fly straight!! :p

I've had so many returned that I've lost count. One thing I've learned is to make friends with everyone out at the disc golf course, and make sure you return as many discs as you can.

Karma always pays off.

Good stuff right there. I'm thinking Michigan?

I promise I guessed before I looked.

One time I got a call from a guy who had actually left me 2 messages that I had never checked. I listened to his third one. He had my favorite ChampyStar Boss that I had lost 2 years prior. I was happy to get it back, and it was only a bit more worn in. It is still my go-to stable driver.
