2014 United States Disc Golf Championship

He did mediocre yesterday and relatively poorly today, so he must be struggling this year. Come on man, can't you see the fine print?

Right.
I know winning the Japan Open and having to play off for the World Championships is a sure sign of struggling.

I heard that earlier as well, which is kind of amazing in it's own right- as good as he is... but Yeah, he looks loose but focused, and minus that one hole that got the best of him(his first worst than par of the tourney, unfortunately he took like a 7 or something(?))- other than that, he looks like he's enjoying himself. McBeth, when he's on, is in a league by himself and he's been on a lot this year... and last year, and the year before that... dude's incredible, and I'd be shocked if he didn't hold on for the win.

If I remember correctly, McBeth said at one point that he wasn't attacking the course in past years, he was trying to play it safe because he thought that was the better strategy for this course. He said that after he shot -15 in the final round last year it kind of made him reconsider this, and he decided to change his strategy this year.

Again, to paraphrase my broken memory, he said, "I just hate that it took me five years to figure out this course." His -14 on day one this year seems to confirm that he should indeed play the course in attack mode rather than safe mode.

I could probably have told him that considering McBeast is his nickname. :p

Plus- He's "on a mission from God." to quote the Blues Brothers.

Yes, JohnE loves Jesus. Glad to be able to call him a brother. I've been a fan since I watched him give his acceptance speech for this year's Throw Down the Mountain and a friend since I prayed with him before his first round at this year's Memorial. There are several reasons to like the guy beyond that.

The thing is, if you watch the video it doesn't even look like he's being aggressive. It looks like every other video you see of Paul, placing a few shots and crushing discs along tight lines. During the -14 round he birdied 9 (which he took a 7 on this time), eagled 10 (took a 4 today with another OB drive) and birdied 16 (went OB with his pink Destroyer and made the putt to save par). Those three holes are the difference between the -14 he shot yesterday and the -7 he shot today. I'd bet money that if he had taken a 4 on hole 9 and not a 7 he'd have at least birdied 10 because the weight of the previous hole wouldn't have been as bad.

With that said, McBeth was probably 3 mistakes away from carding another double digit under round and having a 10 stroke lead on the entire field. This tournament is his to throw away, which isn't going to happen. Only one other player has carded -10 or better so far and that was Patrick Brown while McBeast is averaging -10.5. He's on another level right now, even on his bad days.

The guy has had 10 wins, including a Major(Japan) and a NT(Texas State's)... by anyone's standards a fantastic year, better than anyone not named McBeth...."not closing." Pshaw!

Ricky also won the Fort Steliacoom Open, which was an NT this year. Very few people consistently keep up with Paul and Ricky is at the top of that short list. Easily his closest competition when it comes to raw talent and the potential to win any event.

Anyone know when coverage starts tomorrow? Since Open Flight isn't until almost noon, will DGP be filming Performance Flight at all?

DGP seems to only cover one round per day so they likely won't broadcast until the lead card tees off after 2pm.

If only there was a camera on the chase card. Everybodys-favourite-guy Will+two Finns, whoever those guys might be :D and Steve Rico who is also entertaining to watch and a clutch putter.

Oops, was looking at pdgalivedotcom for that... okay, Paul U. is a good substitute for Will in the 2nd card and Sexton, well if you look at his pre-putt routine, you cant help but be entertained :D

damn, big move by will to jump to the lead card. I would hate to play that course in the rain.

is paul throwing the thunderbird out there? i think its the same cpd hes been using for a while but magicweed either likes typing thunderbird or pauls actually throwing one.

Yes, the Thunderbird is in and the CPD is out of the bag.

To summarize the review I recall, the Thunderbird doesn't have the forward fade of a PD.

Paul's in the bag from the tournament showed him carrying 3 Thunderbirds. He's swtiched over. No Krait, no PD.

Since he seems to only put his name on molds he carries, does that mean it's coming off the Krait?
