Top 10 Discs of All Time

The ultimate question is, is this a top ten list of discs you feel have bettered your game, bettered your perception of the game, discs that have altered the sport, and or discs that are seemingly the most popular?

We have gone through these lists before, several from the different perspectives mentioned above, but hell, this is for fun. So, here is my top ten compiled the best I can based upon what I have thrown and I believe are the best after taking everything into consideration.

1) Heavy Gold Line River - This disc alone through its magical properities of perfect stability and glide overnight convinced me to stop worrying about maximum distance and throwing the fastest discs on the market. Instead the River had me working on shaping lines, staying in the fairway, and throwing a more balanced game.

2) Lighter and slightly beaten Star Teebird - This was actually the first fairway driver I gave a chance when I tried the whole discing-down movement. I was rock-solid with this disc and likely would not have given the River a try if this Teebird had not flown so well but unfortunately taken some damage.

3) Opto Halo - While it is not in my bag because I gave the Z Nuke the nod, it is the Halo's combination of speed, glide, stability, and maximum distance potential that reignited my love affair with all things Latitude 64.

4) Z Nuke - Mastering this disc helped me clean up my form, showing me that I do not need to rely on overstable brutes like the Boss to achieve maximum open field distance. While I have moved to using the Pro Destroyer for flat out open field distance, my Z Nukes are completely reliable on any distance line I need and I do trust them into the wind.

5) Cryztal Buzzz - Such a perfection combination of everything, and throw on top of it that yellow Cryztal is nearly impossible to lose. The only reason it is not in my bag is because I am using two versions of the Roc to cover more of a stability range. The Buzzz pairs well with the Hornet, but since I am also using the Drone, that would make my bag a little overstable heavy.

6) Star Ontario Roc - It is a little harder to find, but not too bad. It provides the stability most people try for when they beat in their DX and KC Pros but gives you the higher durability of the Star plastic. I like them despite others prefering to season softer Rocs; all I can say is to each their own, paired with the Star San Marino Roc they cover almost every shot I need without having to worry about changing my grip.

7) Z Drone - Overstable goodliness. Even though it does not see much play, just having it in the bag and knowing what it can do is an incredible security blanket.

8) Pro Pig - It has enough glide when powered to reassure me that it will be predictable, can handle it, and be true even when I suddenly lose confidence in my putting.

9) SSS Wizard - This is my second time through with the Wizard and this time I think I have found the niche it excels at. When I used it strictly as a putter I could never find the right combination of aim and power. I always dinked it against the cage or flew past on the right. However, when using it for longer putts that I deem my chances slim anyway or for approaches I want to take a run at the basket with, the great feel of the Wizard and perfect neutral stability has greatly improved that part of my game.

10) X-Link Ridge - Its story is similar to my Wizards. As a true putter it was less than spectacular. Yet when I gave it the role of approaches and running the basket and learned what it can do, that part of my game instantly got better. In fact, it probably is now the best part of my game, which then in turn reduces the pressure of having to make the perfect drive, which in turn helps me to drive better.

Honorable mentions:
Star Archon
Gold Line Striker
150g Z Flick
Echo Star Wraith
FLX Buzzz
Champion Ape
Star Valkyrie

and the following discs once beaten in:
Star Boss
Champion and Pro Destroyer
X-Link Ascent (especially during the winter)
Opto Trident (for thumbers)

In no specific order:

Aviar
Wizard
Buzzz
Roc
Comet
XL
Teebird
Firebird
Valkyrie
Destroyer

Wouldn't this be an awesome bag??

1. Aviar (Putt for dough, makes this the 1st putter to earn $$ right?)
2. Roc (often imitated, never duplicated (sorry Wasp throwers)).
3. Eagle-X (slightly more versatile than the Teebird IMO)
4. Teebird (better than the car)
5. Wizard (singlehandedly keeping GDS alive for a reason)
6. Buzzz (the Teebird of midranges)
7. Valk (distance holder supreme)
8. Comet (Not a Roc, but arguably better to many)
9. Ion (pushed the boundaries of what a putter can do)
10. Cyclone (Versatile little bastard)

Honorable Mentions:
Leopard, Predator, QMS, Fuse, River, Wraith, Destroyer, Boss, Firebird, JLS

I agree with all of this, expect how did the leopard not make the list? I've had leopards in different plastics/weights perform with more versatility than cyclones.. Unless you want to count OOP plastics, because then your cyclone could also be your meathook.. and now I'm rambling

Buzzz
Destroyer
Aviar
Leopard
Eagle
Comet
Nuke

Honorable mentionings : ( i know they are good, i just dont use them )

Roc
Valk

Might miss some but I don't think I would go necessarily for what I throw. Just in random order:

Aviar
Roc
Comet
Eagle
Teebird
Cyclone
Leopard
Valkyrie
Stingray
fill in one here, maybe Banshee

IF you are going All Time Greats, I'm not going for newer, latest and greatest but rather those that are still widely popular and have stood the test of time. I only carry 2 of those but I recognize all their greatness.

1: Whamo Midnight Flyer (The 1st disc designed specificly for disc golf)

2: Discraft Phantom and Phantom + (The 1st Discraft "modern" style discs)

3: Innova Roc (Even a Discraft thrower has to acknowledge this disc)

4: Discraft Cyclone/X-clone

5: Discraft Comet

6: Innova Teebird

7: Discraft Buzzz

8: Discraft Challenger

9: Discraft Magnet

10: Innova Aviar

There was an article about this over a year ago. it was very intreresting, I think it included the Epic.

I'll wait till next year to respond, but I have a feeling i'll be adding my river top 10!

1. Leopard
2. Teebird
3. Valkyrie
4. Eagle
5. BB Aviar
6. Rhyno
7. Firebird
8. Wraith
9. Roc
10. Katana

Personal top ten
1. Viper, first disc I ever bought. Also the first disc I lost lol.
2. Aviar, in one form or another my main putter for over a decade.
3. Jaguar, greatest roller disc ever.
4. Buzzz, taught me that mid rangers weren't all evil.
5. Valkyrie, most versatile disc ever and the best in the woods control driver.
6. Cheetah, back when KC discs counted their world championships in single digits this was my go to driver for a long time.
7. Cyclone, my original hyzer bomb disc.
8. Star wraith, good solid distance driver. Not excessive like a boss but by no means wimpy.
9. Nuke, excessive but hey why not. Also good for monster hyzer shots at long range.
10. SS surge, great anny disc. Especially longer ones.

teebird
firebird
river
destoyer
nuke
roc
buzzz
comet
wizard
drone

1. Aviar - I have a couple of aviars, i don't throw them but everyone loves them. These putters are famous

2. Roc - I think this disc is self explanatory

3. Buzzz - buzzz vs roc, I have both in my bag, I throw both and i love both

4. Leopard - This seems to be almost everyones first driver. It was one of my first drivers. I think its a very forgiving disc and I always recommend my new disc golf player friends to pick this up as your first driver.

5. Valkyrie - Everyone loves the valkyrie. Everyone has one. It is a very famous driver. It can be thrown all different ways and very far.

6. Teebird - Again, another disc that has been around for some time and everyone seems to love and have. I have gone through about 5 champ teebirds since I started playing.

7. Firebird - Everyones first really overstable/thumber disc and still one of the best. Very very popular.

8. Boss - Some might disagree with me but I love my boss. It is definitely my go to flick disc and it has been a popular disc for a long time. It is the famous 13 speed driver golfers had trouble controlling. I honestly do not know one person that does not have one.

9. Eagle - I bought an eagle once, I was not really fond of it. But there is no doubting this is a classic disc. This deserves to be on the list. Probably a little higher up.

10. Magnet/Challenger - I think these rank about the same. I have putted with both putters for a period of time. Just moved on to different putters. But these both seem to be pretty popular.

Out of my list, I only use the Roc, buzzz and the boss. I love the three discs but my top 10 are the top 10 discs that I think are world famous.

There are discs that are becoming very popular among people. I have discs I love that I would like to see on the 'top 10' but because of their age and other things, I don't think they have made it to that popularity status yet and I think sooner or later, they will be considered as one of the greats...

comet <---This is my mid range. Period.
River - If you have not tried this yet, please find someone that has one.
Fuse
Wraith
Wasp
Nuke

I feel like im missing something...

Cool thread. Here are my top 10 faves:

1.) Nuke (Pushing the distance boundary for everybody)
2.) Wizard (Don't know why it's so awesome, but it is)
3.) Buzz (Perfection)
4.) Stalker (Perfection, but faster and further)
5.) Predator (Overstable Goodness)
6.) Zone (Overstable Goodness, just a lot slower)
7.) Force (Overstable and FAST)
8.) Aviar (Super Straight Fabulous)
9.) Xcaliber (Forehand Gold)
10.) Surge (Fills the gap between Predator and Stalker perfectly)

Roc -Because Rocs are better than Buzzzes
Buzzz - But not by much!
Comet - possibly the most neutral flier ever?
Wizard - because when did you ever hear somebody say "i switched from a Wizard to an Aviar"?
Leopard - every beginner (should) has one
Teebird - every beginner should aspire to one
Eagle - the most accepted classic fairway driver
River - the most accepted modern fairway driver
Avenger - When i think Discraft distance driver, i think Avenger first.
Boss - When i think Innova distance driver, i think Boss first.

1. buzzz (most aces of any disc, plus I love them)
2. Roc (Innova's most valuable player)
3. Midnight Flyer (early game changer)
4. Valkyrie (a distance record holder and a staple in many bags, not mine though)
5. Wizard (It made gateway a viable company)
6. Rhyno (my favorite overstable putter, plus it is the only disc that can have a thumb track and still be cool.
7. River (It is not unique, but it is great and launched Euro discs into the spot light)
8. Firebird (early game changer that has held on)
9. Epic (yeah it's a peice of crap, but it is the true ruler of the gimmick discs)
10. The Vibram VP (discs don't have to be made out of plastic? WHOA ;))
