The Dye A Day Thread! (Part II)

That's some nice marbling on glowZ plastic, are you using iDye or Rit?

It's some iDye I've had sitting in a mason jar for about 2 months now, the disc sat in my Barbasol bath in the garage for around 15 hours.

Here's another marble job on a glow z Comet

That is insane Lavon! Love it!

Here is a brainwave dye done on a Gold Line River, I haven't seen ANY latitude plastic with a brainwave, I believe this is a FIRST:

Nice! :hfive::clap:

Please put one (or both) in the marbling thread mentioning both the glowZ and the iDye.

Yeah, that comet is so insanely awesome I can't even describe it. I've been drawing little planet shaped things with craters all over it for as long as I can remember. When I get a house and a job I'm going to try and buy that off you.

Thanks, guys. Yep, I'm a handcutter. Wildwing, I use a $4.95 circle cutter and it works great. The brand name is Morn Sun. I bought it online and shipping was $2.95.

Thanks Koogs! Will check that out.

Is there an idye thread or tutorial floating around on here anywhere? Haven't being dyeing lately and gonna start up again. Gonna make the switch from Rit to idye and wanna get an idea of the differences with idye compared to Rit dyeing before I start.

Here's a few more from Jeff Ash that he did for me, creator of the brainwave dyes:

Not as much STAND OUT waves like the river, more subtle with a bit of reflectiveness it seems, either way, I think they are AWESOME :thmbup:

Leewaye the Jacquard iDye thread in the stickied techniques has some useful info towards the end. I've only used the black so far but have found that dissolving one packet in 24oz hot water works great. 10-15min dip for a good dark black. I've asked that one of the iDye guys put something together, maybe your seconding that will make it happen :)

This one I found in another thread was fun, from BombMk;

"You take that packet. Sprinkle it with blessed water. Then you pray to your preferred deity that the evil contents have not already contaminated your dwelling. And then you dispose of it. Preferrably in your least favourite neighbours garbage bin.

Thats how you should use it.

The rest I mix with 3/4-1 liter of water (depending on the pan you can go with less, perhaps). Just heat up the water and dump the pack with the dye in it and stir calmly but thoroughly. Store it in a container of your choice afterwards.
Advice: Something that locks TIGHT."

iDye mixes up about like Rit, I just used warm tap water in a mason jar and shook it up. Worked the same for how I mixed Rit as iDye. Throw away the color intensifier of course.

I haven't noticed a huge difference from iDye to Rit, but then again I don't do as many dyes as alot of the guys on here.

Hmm. I seemed to get nice color using the intensifier. Is this one of those "can't hurt, but doesn't help" things?

It can hurt a bit, though. That stuff made a couple of dyes living hell as the intensifier made it EXTREMELY messy to get the excess color off. It was extremely gooey and stuck to EVERYTHING it got in contact with. Doing a multi color with the intensifier would ne an absolute no-go for me.

My wife just started dyeing discs. The white w/ OU logo is her second ever, the pit bull is her third and the green w/ OU logo is her fourth.

I have to say that was a beautiful dye. This pic does not do it justice. Nice job on that one.
