Famous non-pro disc golfers

In another thread about growing the sport and getting it into the "big time" it occured to me that I can't name a single celebrity who plays. Now with the propensity of courses on college campuses, I find it hard to believe that there aren't any pro football, basketball, hockey or baseball players who play disc golf...I'll go even further and say that I'm surprised I haven't heard of any actors or singers into it...honestly, Matthew McCaughney (however you spell his name) comes to mind as a guy who might fit the profile (sorry for stereotyping!!!) plus he lives in Texas....
I just think that one step in growing it is going to be having celebrities who play it. For example, with the World's being in Chicago next year...are there any guys from the Bears/Cubs/WhiteSox/Blackhawks/Bulls who play? Perhaps have the World's coincide with some sort of fund raiser to which these athletes would want to lend their name/celebrity to?
Sounds like there are a ton of potential opportunities if someone is aggressive enough to go out and get them....

I always thought if I ever became President, how cool it would be to have a course installed on the White House lawn. That would put the sport on the map.

BRILLIANT!!!! Or how about a course at Camp David?!?!?!?!

Jeff Halpern, currently with the Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) used to play at Bluemont before he signed with the Washington Capitals.

There's a picture somwhere on the internet where Matthew Perry is posing with Ken Climo, so apparently he plays or has played.

Someone should be making a list...Whenever there is a big event, all of their agents need to be notified and these guys invited...I bet that an advertised Matthew Perry appearance would generate more spectators....but we'll probably never get Matthew Perry to ???, TX, which is why major cities need to be full on bombarded with disc golf courses....

I saw a reference on another message board to having seen NASCAR driver Carl Edwards at a course in Florida -- said he seemed to be pretty well accustomed to the game, so it probably wasn't his first time out. Not that he's a huge celebrity in the grand scheme of things.

Carl Edwards is a disc golfer, along with some of the guys that work on the race teams.

celebrity disc golfers:

Ed Norton
Chris Martin-the lead singer of Coldplay
Rachel Bilson
Bobby Flay of the Food Network
Sally Fields
Mexican superstar Toro Mierda

How in the world did you find this list? Talk about a random group of characters???

Although, I guess that is what we all are too.

I had heard that Sterling Sharpe of Green Bay Packers fame; who's brother, Sterling was announcing for ESPN (and still may be), was pretty good....but, I never saw him on a course or anything. Perhaps some of the ultimate guys in Madison would have more info.

Here's a couple I bet you didn't know about:
Ryan O'Neal PDGA#049
Tatum O'Neal PDGA #050

That would have made Tatum under 10 y.o. when her dad signed her up :)

Really?!?!?! Sterling Sharpe was an absolute monster!! The only WR I ever heard of who could bench 450...if injury hadn't cut his career short, I bet he'd be in Canton right now waiting for Brett....with 3 rings!?!?!?!

If I was President I would have a 36 hole set up at yellowstone. you could have a couple of "Geyser holes" with pin placements next to them also:eek:

If Sterling didn't retire early, he and Bret would of had the touchdown record for a combo. Sterling was the only hall of fame type receiver that Bret ever had. He had a few good ones, but not great like Sterling.

SALLY FIELD??

can't wait to see her custom Flying Nun dyed discs

Ryan and Tatum never played (that we know of) but were given PDGA numbers by Steady Ed at a celebrity event he concocted. Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor owns a 9-hole course on her property somewhere in Wisconsin.
