I have not had any time to make a video on these discs, but I will give it my honest opinion here..
Category: Putters, premium plastic
Product: Gateway Chief, evolution plastic
Additional thoughts/info:
Plastic is down right awesome. Very beautiful to look at it (sucker for swirls), and easy to grip and maintain.
New wing is very close to a DD Suspect, except these tops are FLAT. From talking to Danny, you can expect this with all their new chiefs.
Plastic has gumminess to it, don't expect a stiff putter, but also don't expect floppy. It's right in that sweet spot.
Noticeably more stable than the "old" chief mold. If you are more of a finesse person, or new to the game, the old Chief will suit you just fine. If you like to FH putters, or lay into them, you can expect a little turn on these discs with a slight hyzer-flip. If you force an anny and throw it hard, that's your problem, this isn't a Zone!
Overall Grade: B+
Overall Value: A- (should retail between $14-$17)
Closest Competitor, in style; DD Suspect, Discraft Ringer
Closest Competitor, in price range; Lucid Suspect ($14)
Reasoning;
This is an excellent disc from Gateway, which is pretty much known for their "other disc". Gateway has been pushing their test fly kits lately, which is an absolutely fantastic deal for TDs and Clubs! If you need a stable driving putter, check out the new e-chief, if you need a little more neutral of a flight, but like the flat top, check out the "old" chief. The price is very reasonable for evolution plastic, which is just as pretty and nice as anything else out there. The kind folks at Gateway will work to get you exactly what you are looking for as well.
So, in closing, if you like a beaded driving putter, with a nearly board flat top (its FLAT!!!), with a more shallow rim, check this thing out. Great disc. Great for upshots around 75-175 feet from my testing.
Bottom line = Will it kick out my beloved Fuzion Judge? The answer is no. My GBO Judge suits me perfectly, I love it. There are a lot of great driving putter options out there, you just need to find out one or two that suit your needs. Give the new chief an honest try, or beg your club/td to order a test fly kit with one included in it!
