What's the unluckiest shot you've ever had?

First round of a tournament at quail ridge here in Missouri playing the white tees. I had never actually played all the white tees, so my goal was to shot even par. Hole 12 plays up hill there is a mando tree on the right forcing an anny or a flick no problem its not a very long shot i can manage it, and it slope down hill to the right of the basket severely. I throw my RHFH shot and its not bad but not great, so I decide to lay up to avoid going past and down that huge hill, but I decide I'm gonna be a pansy and be way shorter than I wanted to, but still a makeable putt for me. So then.....

My putt hits high on the chains on the left side, falls down catches the edge of the basket, falls out and then proceeds to roll all the way down the hill. So then it takes me 2 shots to get out of that mess and then I make the putt to put down a 6 for the hole. Pretty sure that those 3 shots where the difference between my 2nd place finish and what should have been a Victory.

At Mackenzie Park in Lubbock Texas, my unluckiest shot was on hole number 4 which is a short par 3. I threw what I thought was going to be a nice shot, but then it bounced off of a tree and started to fly to the left. At this point I was extremely worried because the disc was now heading straight for the water. Just before it got to the water it hit the ground and I thought it was just going to stay there, but that was not my luck. It then bounced up off some roots and went flying straight into the water to never be found again.

Not myself, but Kachtz had the worst at Virginia State Disc golf weekend. He overthrew the basket by a few feet and it fell down a massive revine. He missed the ace by a few feet and ended up at the bottom of the revine. He did not know the rules, so he tried to throw up the slope...in the rain. the disc kept sliding back down to him and he would throw it again, then it would slide back down and he would toss it again. I think he took a 7 or 12, something absurd and preventable.

I'm guessing that was on hole 10...

Hole #4 at Warrior's Path during a tournament there I threw a perfect shot and hit dead center chains. Go up to collect my first Ace and the disc has broken in to 3 pieces. One piece in the basket and 2 on the ground. The butt head guys in my group call the TD.

Because the piece in the basket is about 1/4" smaller than the 2 pieces on the ground its not an Ace.

My brother was taking a shot at what I believe is 18 at Rosedale in K.C.(it's the one that runs along Mission Road near the park entrance). He grip-locks it and it flies through the trees and out onto street... just as an open dump truck is rolling by and "plunk", right into the back of the truck as it goes zooming south.

Gone forever.

This made me laugh so hard, mostly because I've thrown into those trees quite a few times.

That is ROUGH...

Are you kidding me :wall: I would have given that guy one of the pieces from the ground and told him "Here now you can have a piece of an ace disc, since you will never get one that you deserve!"

This is a NO BRAINER. And I highly doubt anyone can top this one.

In 2004, I tried to win the NC Points Series in Advanced. This is a BIG DEAL in North Carolina.

In late May, I entered one of the events, the Big Valley Challenge in Durham, NC. The course was Valley Springs, a course I knew well.

In round 3, I was killing it. I was about -5 through my first 5 holes and entering the day -11 after two rounds, was making my move. We get to hole 12, a downhill 280 slow anhyzer. I threw an aviar hyzer flip and came up about 50 short. This hole has a VERY fast green as the entire hole is down hill.

Valley Springs around the same time was cutting in a long course, and this hole included a planned long position. The long pin is about 150 feet behind the original pin. Normally there were just woods there but the inclusion of this long, a narrow path about three feet wide had been cut out in anticipation of this.

With the very fast green, I simply laid up. The disc hits a root by the pin and starts rolling. Sure enough, it rolls RIGHT DOWN the middle of this three foot wide path and all the way down past where the pin would be.

Now, I'm 200 feet past the pin and have a three foot wide alley as my only option to get to the pin. Keep in mind, this was before the optional rethrow rule, so I had to play it.

I ended up taking an 11 on the hole. AN 11. Instead of a 3. AN 11. I would get four more birdies and one more bogey on the hole and shoot a 54 for the round. Here are the results, below FYI. I would have finished 4th with a 3 on the hole.

So I ended up finishing 2nd in the points and missed it by a few. Had I gotten a 3 and not an 11 on the hole, I would have won the NC Points Series.

A roll away cost me the state series title.

Like I said, I highly doubt anyone can top that.

not my shot but i'm pretty sure mike sullivan getting a spit out that cost him the world championship tops yours...

Are discs breaking like this common?

Wow that sucks, but technically is the correct call.

Some great stories! I have been laughing all the way and haven't had any as bad as these. My worst shot was in a tournament at weatherford tx when the wind was blowing about 50 miles an hour.

They had a temp hole set up on the beach of the lake and the tee was below a hill leading to the lake. I threw my surge on a pretty line up the hill until it reached the top. When it got there it found the wind coming off the lake and decided it didn't want any of that ****. It turned around and landed on the top of the hill and rolled all the way down the hill, past the teebox and into the forest of evil thornes.

I didn't know about the optional rethrow rule. I took a 7. And I haven't heard the end of it.

I was putting from about 15 feet out once and just as I released it an ungodly gust of wind took it like kite and sailed it over a lake and dropped it right in

Hit the ring on the inner chains, the disc rolled into the lake behind trees. Cost me $140. Hole 9 Lakewood

At a tourny at Lake Shore Park in Ashtabula, OH which is notorius for windy conditions, I had a great drive and was looking at a Birdie if I make the 30' put. The basket is on a hill, so I know if I miss I risk having the disc roll away. But I am confident and make a good put that hits the basket chains dead center, but just as the disc goes vertical but before it could drop into the basket, a big gust of wind came and blew my disc out of the chains where upon it rolled down the hill 50-60 feet away. I was so unnerved that I 3 putted to finish the hole with a 5 or a double bogey. That lesson taught me the inportance of knowing when to lay up and take one extra stroke rather than going for it in risky conditions and ending up with 2-3 extra strokes.

played a tourny at willow in michigan..the entire course was a solid sheet of ice and i missed multiple drop in putts due to slipping on the ice.

Worst I've seen:

Practice round for a tourney at Rolling Hills, same conditions. Chris Woj is 50 feet out, his putt lands under the basket and slides another 50' away. Rinse. Repeat. 5 times.

Worst I've done:

Tourney at Ottawa Park in Toledo, hole 15. My 10' putt hits the top of the basket, skips and hits the top of the basket again, and rolls down the hill into a parking lot. Turned a par into a 6

Monstrous wind conditions (20+ mph constant) and I try to throw my max weight ESP Zone to a basket that is about 12 feet uphill and 30 feet away. I put some height on it thinking I'll plop it down with a nice lob put, when a HUGE 40 mph gusts rips through right when I release it.

The disc stops in the air 5 feet in front of me and over my head, and it's dead stopped still spinning.

Then it flies over my head and 30 feet behind me. Pure awesomesauce.
