[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread (Part II)

I must not have the right Ascent. My oldest is pretty flippy now. My newer one will still flip in a headwind. In my opinion Vibram can't get the Mo- discs done soon enough. But I patiently wait until they are perfected.

I have come across three Ascent "variants" out of the 15-20 Ascents I have thrown.

1. Typical Ascent (most common); starts off with just a hair of high speed turn and a good dose of fade and loses HSS and LSS at about the same rate as it breaks in, is great at shaping all sorts of lines.

2. "Flippy" Ascent; Starts out with a good bit of Turn and seems to lose LSS before HSS, makes for a great turnover/hyzerflip disc.

3. Beefy Ascent(least common, I've had two... both have been lost); No turn and extra fade and seems to have even less glide than most Ascents. Great wind disc, Banshee beefy. The only difference I noticed is that the "bead" on the end of the wing of the Ascents seemed slightly larger and to sag down more than all my other Ascents.

That being said, "variant 1", your typical Ascent, is actually a better wind disc than most line shaping fairways (some turn with plus fade) fairways because it lacks the glide most of those fairways have. It may get blown of fcourse but it tends to not ride a random gust all the way to BFE like an Eagle, for example, would.

Unrelated side note:
As pumped as I am to be in Maryland visiting family for Thanksgiving, I can not wait to get home. Because I will have a package from Vibram with 3 glow discs and a free tee, plus a 174 Medium O-Lace from Community, waiting for me!

Model #3 is mine. Beefier than my Banshee, but able to shape nice s curves. 100 reliable fade. Birdie bash veteran and fills a huge niche in my bag.

BTW, I cursed that beef during the Birdie Bash when I needed to go left or straight with trees on the left, plus being unfamiliar with it.

I would like to have a model number 3 but I fear both of mine have been a 1. Over time even the 1 has become flipper than my Trak.

The boiling water trick will give the Ascent some beef back, but if you have a #1, it'll only be so beefy.

My glow Ascent is unlike any other Ascent I've felt. The rim feels much deeper and sharper, almost uncomfortably so. But, it's about as beefy as my champ Firebird. The thing is crazy.

That makes me even more excited for my glow Ascent, hope mine flies that OS.

Played a round on the way home for the holiday today. (whistlers bend, Or). Had a great day with the vibrams. Hit solid basket on hole one is short position with my ascent, then slammed the number plate on hole 12 with a huge hyzer with my lace. Also shot my best round ever at that course.

To go with my good day, my moms husband hooked my up with his ibex and I traded a buddy for his obex. So I'll be pitting my vector, axis combo against the obex, ibex combo.

Is there any way to tell the difference between the 3 variants of the ascent? Should I look for dome? plh? droopy "bead"?

I had never concerned myself with PLH's before. Now that I am more serious about buying discs I just wanted a more informative answer, please excuse my snippy-ness it happens on occasion. Vibram for life! And thank you for actually responding instead of telling me to buy mvp instead! haha

Just got 4 Ridges in the mail, 2 medium and 2 firm. Gotta say, I am really digging the firms as far as a driving putter goes so far. I like the feel of the mediums more, but the firm ridges are driving straighter and further for me

Not a fan of the summit that I have, a bit too understable for me, but the Ridge is a very sexy disc

The Ridge is money! My favorite part is throwing it as hard as I want and it wont flip, just holds perfectly straight and then gently fades.

Higher PLH and the "droopy bead". I wish I could explain it better than that or had taken a picture when I still had one of those two Ascents.

Got some good time in today with my Glow Ascent. Very happy with it- it has some really nice stability!

Yes it does, I think I can finally ditch my XXX and have a full Vibram bag now.
So I'm guessing my glow Ascent isn't a beefy anomaly, but the standard? My only issue with it is the really deep rim. I'd wouldn't mind dumping my champ Firebird for it, but it's not nearly as comfortable for thumbers.

I spent a fair amount of time throwing my medium unLace and firm O-Lace...both in my preferred throwing weight range (167-169g).

As a 300+ft-ish thrower with my Laces, the unLace isn't nearly as understable as I'd thought it'd be. It's definitely understable for me, but more of a "turn forever and never come back" understable, not a turn and burner. I think once I figure out hyzer angles and heights with it, I'll really like it. It definitely goes forever for me...my furthest driver thus far (330'+). I've also toyed around with it for rollers, which is new to me. It resulted in my longest drives, but I don't know enough about rollers yet to make them predictable.

The O-Lace is pretty damn awesome. It's not that much shorter that my Lace, due to a beefier fade than my Laces, and it's great that I can rely on that fade every time. With my Laces, I'll occasionally turn it over (due to release angle/form mistakes), which can make bad things happen. If I absolutely, positively cannot go left (LHBH), then the O-Lace is a huge boon for me.

I was hesitant to get either of them, since I really don't have the arm for the Lace. I'm really glad I got both....hell, the whole Lace family. I throw them all further than my Ascent/Trak combo, with relatively equal accuracy. Screw throwing what's "right", I'm gunna throw what works. ;)

Got a Globex (glow Obex) recently. The non glow Obex I have is very domey, but the Globex is flat. What's up with that? What is the Obex supposed to be, flat or domey? I prefer the flat.

I have two mediums, one glow and one soft Obex. The only one which has much of a dome is the soft. /shrug
