So I was playing a practice round the other day before a Team Match play event this past weekend and I threw my disc into the parking lot off hole 18. As I was walking back to the grass I found a disc sitting on top of some leaves in a parking spot where a car had presumably recently backed out. There was no one waiting around at the end of the hole or anyone in the parking lot looking for a disc.

Here is the delima that I am trying to bring to light. This disc at one point had a name and number written on the inside of the rim. Someone though had blacked it out to the point where it is just about impossible to read. I can make out all but a few numbers theoretically. I tried some acetone hoping the older ink would stay better than the top ink but that proved futile. So the question is, what do you do with a found disc where info has been blacked out?

fyi: there is no new info on this found disc.

What if the blacked out number was a guy who traded to the new dope who didn't put his name on it?

Now lets say that did happen and the guy who traded is a little shady so you call him and he takes his disc back...

What about that? ;)

If you cant read it you can return it. I got a Champ wraith like that was day glow but is almost black because it has been lost and found so many times people have just covered it up.It is now my junk wraith, it already has a mark on it so Im not putting my name on it and when it goes bye bye, oh well

I have had to black out info on tons of discs especially star plastic which I have not found a way to remove the info. I bought all of these discs online used so if the info is blacked out I would not call that person. I hate to say it but I am not going through that hassle. If it had already been found by someone and that info not removed then the orignal owner is lucky if they claim the disc. But beyond visible info I will not go deeper than that.

keep it, what else would you do? i have some i want to black out and put my name on, that i got in a trade, just gotta make shure im not trading it first

seconded. if the info isnt fresh then it isnt worth it.

You just scored yourself a disc. When I get a disc from someone I usually draw a little ------> then print my name and the date I got the disc. That way there is a chance at least one of us gets the disc back!!
I hate how discs look with all those blacked out names on the bottom, but that's just my OCD talking.

No worries, I have that OCD problem too. Probably why I started this thread.

You could post it in the lost and found section of the local club's website, IF they have one.
However, it sounds to me like you have a disc...

If a disc has blacked out info and new info on it as well, contact the new info. Yes, that person may have stolen it/ not contacted the original owner, yet it could just be a traded disc. I'll always contact lost disc info and don't steal discs, but I do trade.

In the OP's case...blacked out info+ no new info= new disc for you.

Yep, I have lots of discs that I've bought used online. I usually just score through the old name. I suppose I should remove the ink, but meh. Effort is bad!

Have you tried removing ink from ESP/FLX/ Star??? Sharpie sucks right into the plastic....I'd remove it if I thought I really had a chance of actually removing it.

It's yours now. I believe the law states that unless the contact info is clearly marked, the ruling in the case of Finders v. Losers is applicable, and since you are the finder you are then, by law, also the keeper and not the Loser and/or weeper.

I've bought some 'recycled' discs that had been in the lost and found for a period of time and the owner hadn't returned the call that had the contact info blacked out. It's nice buying a 'preconditioned' roller

If I find a disc and the owner doesn't call me back I'll black out the info. I usually write "your disc now" or something similar on the back so when I lose it there's no confusion.

Enjoy your new disc.
