Just noticed Ivanhenson has 140 reviews under his belt and isn't even a bronze yet! Is that the record? His reviews can be a little on the short side but this seems crazy. Albert Einstien said "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." lol

His problem is too many downvotes. Reading the one review of his on a course I have played... yeah it'll probably stay that way for a while.

I use to get bashed for writing longer reviews, then I would get bashed for writing simple reviews.

now I just write what I feel like writing. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I write what I would want to read in a review.

I always spend at least twice as long proof reading and trying to remove stuff from my reviews than I actually do writing them. It's by far the hardest part of writing a good review, for me. I could easily write 1500 words or more on a dinky 9-holer if I just let myself go. lol.

Was it ever proposed to have a tiered system for a member's thumbs up percentage to match the tiered TR system? Like minimum 50% helpful to be bronze, but minimum 85% helpful to be diamond? My initial thought is that would make more sense than the 55% flat rate across all TR levels.

I'm not an Einstein, but dudes reviews are awful. Mine were too at first, but I tried to improve, and still am, but those are just bad. I wonder if Ivan is the founder of Udisc?

I've given him a thumb up or two before, almost entirely on the fact that he is a premium member here and supports the site. I stopped awhile ago on that.

is that right? i don't recall it but i may have been before i paid close attention here.

if you look at his reviews though, he posted most of them all at once. after 1 review in 2007, he posted 26 on one day in 2009, 48 on the next, and most of the rest in the following 6 months. that batch of the first two days is overwhelmingly more downvotes than up. granted, it's been awhile for votes to accumulate but you gotta figure most of those reviews are pretty buried and the votes probably came early.

that was right when both of us registered here too, coincidentally.

Dave had done a bunch of reviews pre-DGCR that used his own rating rubric (Appalachian beauty was preferred to other inferior types of beauty). At the beginning, he just kept copying in what he had in his database for each course. The reviews had very little detail, just grades for each of the things he valued. After some pushback, he started adding some other details to his reviews.

Kind of surprising that Valk hasn't reviewed one course in 2021 yet. I have a feeling he's planning an epic 100 course road trip over the summer.

When it finally happens, your diamond will have been well earned. The nice base of courses you've played in the U.S. provides an excellent basis for comparison, in terms of providing credible validity for the 40 some reviews you've written for European courses. :thmbup:

Did he just include folks that have achieved Diamond? That's what it looks like to me.
